Has anyone considered doing something other than carpet cleaning for extra money?

Is anyone doing that now?

Unrelated? Related? Combined? Complimentary .....To carpet cleaning?

Just curious to see what other people are doing.

As you know I have income outside of carpet cleaning....But carpet cleaning was always my bread and butter.

But as outside ventures grow....and the carpet cleaning runs on it's own....Those ventures become more and more substantial.

Anyone?

Commercial and residential rentals in two countries (US and Dominican Republic) and three cities. (Being a "long distance" landlord is especially frustrating.) Real estate has been very good to me (even with the downturn) but like Ken I'm reaching the point where the hassle/reward ratio is looking less and less attractive. If and when we hit an upturn I may cash out on some of the properties.

i have sold some carpet, but finding a dependable installer can be a challenge.
I got invloved with a MLM about 12-15 yrs ago started making really good money fast, all the upline and co. execs told me how much I was going to make and I listened to them and neglected my cleaning biz and took a long time to recover.

I was going to be making well into five figures monthly starting the next month (I made $40,000 in five months) but the state AG shut it down cause he said it was not a product driven biz (no sales)and the only money coming in was from people signing up. It was pre=paid phone cards, the co. paid daily boy was it fun going to the mailbox and getting checks out from $500 to $1700 2 or 3 times a week. My wife got to where she would stand at the back door and watch for the mailman. LOL

I didn't want to be cleaning carpets all my life, so I stayed in teh flooring industry and trained up in repairs and manufacturing warranty rectification work.

I LOVE not working around chemicals, it's better for my health.

I LOVE not slinging a wand everyday, it's better for my back.

I LOVE the public perception about me now, as a specialist in a niche market, I get real job satisfcation, meet some great poeple and make a better ROI than cleaning.

But, the cleaning industry has been good to me and enabled me to get to where I am now, not as pretty as others, but satisfies my families needs.

This is my second career change, I started out of school working with wood, and did a joinery apprenticeship and ended up workshop foreman, and I specialised in staircases.

Studies show most people today will have 3 distinct career changes in their life, I'm mid thirties and already used up two careers, I better choose wisely  so I'm not stuck with something I hate next time...
