OK...how 'bout the ones that wait till you get started on an empty
then say something lik:

OHH i'll be back by the time you're finished......whatya do then...?

i know i stop them dED....write out the invoice and ask for the check...
if they got hinky....
i'd pack up and leave!

Ya I learned that lesson after a few times, never didn't get paid, but a few took a looooong time.

Anytime I show up to an empty house I always ask before I start," Are you going to stay with us while we clean or would you like to write the check and leave?" I've had a couple say oh I'll be back before you're done .. then I explain our policy is to collect before you leave incase something comes up where you may not be back in time - then I describe past experiences of waiting .. so no one leaves until I get a check
