So take pride in your services
Do you consider a maid service a trade? What about the RotoRooter guy. Is the poopoo sucker a trade also? If it is, then so are we
Enough said
It happens if you really screw up. You may have an iicrc inspector investigating your part on a job where things have gone seriously wrong. When was the last time an inspector came to sign off on your work?
If you want to be a rug sucker, go right ahead. No one's saying you can't. You have lots of company. I prefer to represent myself as a skilled tradesman.Dude
Your use of comparative analogy and comprehension skills suck
I thinks is admirable that you do.If you want to be a rug sucker, go right ahead. No one's saying you can't. You have lots of company. I prefer to represent myself as a skilled tradesman.
I think you can look at it either way. Could say the same about janitorial companies. The people vacuuming and mopping are probably not considered tradespeople. What about the guy who refinished floors. The guy who has been trained to use the right equipment to do a strip, seal and wax? The guy who knows how to use a propane buffer without ruining the floor?I thinks is admirable that you do.
However the thread was entitled "Is our industry considered a Trade". Whether you consider it one yourself isn't germane to the question. I believe if you were to poll outsiders they would say no.
As I stated in the beginning I think you can make a case for it but it's a stretch. When I think of a tradesman carpet cleaners are not in that group.
It's not a knock on being a carpet cleaner, I believe we provide a valuable and needed service. Which can also provide a good living for those businessmen and women.
I wouldn't consider janitorial a trade either. Even though my "Custodians" are union, I still wouldn't consider it a trade.I think you can look at it either way. Could say the same about janitorial companies. The people vacuuming and mopping are probably not considered tradespeople. What about the guy who refinished floors. I used to hang drywall. Mudding on stilts. Didn't have any certification.Drywall hangers are tradesmen...
..L.T.A.
Do you have to go to vocational school for that? This service business would be considered (IMHO) a "Vocation".
I believe that to be considered a "trade" , one would have certain qualification as certifications/registrations by a city/state.
A man with a scalpel is not automatically a brain surgeon, and an extraction machine does not make a carpet and upholstery cleaner. So without wishing to sound patronising, I urge you to seek proper training before letting yourself loose on carpets. There is a great deal of misinformation to be found on internet videos and on un-moderated forums and without the correct training you will not be able to sort the wheat from the chaff.
But it is a great industry to be in and the rewards go beyond the financial.

Did you ignore my quote on the specific definition of a trade? Ignorance is not a good trait to haveYet, "representing yourself as a skilled tradesman' does not imply that you ARE a tradesman working in a trade, it simply helps you be more successful in your chosen VOCATION
You can take forklift training classes here. There are different levels of certification depending on the size and activity of the forklift apparently.I drove a forklift for a freezer warehouse and was in a union. I don't see forklifting driving as a trade.
Most of what we are discussing is a skill set not a trade. Imo.
When I worked on helicopters it was a skill not a trade.
I think a trade is building something maybe.
OH NO There’s your sign boys!! And he calls us an idiot!! Alabama bifocals
