Our dog as a kid got sprayed once. We used tomato sauce also. We also used feminine hygiene products that also helped. Not sure where we heard about that but it was over 20yrs ago

Several years ago on one of the first days in our new home our boxer went out at 5:00 am to check out the strange animal in the yard. Of course being a dog, he had to try and sniff it's butt....

We didn't have anything at the house to clean him up, except dish detergent and shampoo but we did wash him down pretty well in the shower. We went out later that day and stocked up on the H2O2 and baking soda and never had an issue again.

The only variance on the recipe that Mike posted is we used Dawn dish washing liquid because it helps with the oils.

Our dog got sprayed this year and came in the house and was rolling all over the carpet. I've grown up hunting and farming my entire life and have killed and ran over many skunks and let me tell you when you smell it close up like what was on my dog it's a different type of smell. We tried tomato juice and different shampoos but the recipe that you posted above worked the best hands down. Also as recommended by Brian H. Dawn dish soap seemed to work the best.

It used the litter box and was perfectly tame. Of course I had kidnapped from its mom when it was little.

I had to keep it and my owl apart of course. Owls eat skunks and don’t seem to care about the smell when they are sprayed.
