Well, looks like it's happening. I was able to come to terms with the seller and we have an agreement. Throwing it into escrow tomorrow morning. I'll discuss terms and price once escrow is closed. What a day!!!!

Anyone know where I can get some good rug training? @cleanking , @T Monahan , @scottw

The Hands-On Rug washing class that Doug Heiferman and I teach together is a great way to get started with plant cleaning. 3 days. We look at one or two rug plants to see how they are set-up and operate and then spend 2 days washing rugs plus an evening on marketing.

May 14th - 16th in Orlando FL. You can register by going to www.interlinksupply.com and clicking on "EDUCATION" in the red bar across the page. This shows our national schedule of classes. enter rugs or such to filter the list down.

This is likely to be the last class I teach.

Early bird pricing if you get registered in the next two weeks.

You can bring problem rugs to the class. Rugs that might bleed. Rugs with urine. Rugs that might curl and so forth. You will feel comfortable with these potential problems because you will have cleaned them in class.

These are the only 2 options I can recommend. The courses are taught by true rug professionals that operate or are employed at successful rug businesses themselves. They've seen just about all you can see when it comes to rugs and are great people on top of that.

Plan on traveling across the country to wherever the course will be hosted and possibly waiting a few months for the next course to be available. I can assure you if you apply yourself, go prepared with good questions, and get serious about the training it will be worth it and you'll have the opportunity to develop relationships that will help you as your rug business grows.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions or other comments, I'm happy to help wherever I can.

Thank you! I'll tell you, my head is spinning right now. I'll be taking you up on that. I do have the Master Rug cleaner video. I really like it. With my new building I have a real opportunity to do something that isn't being done in my area. There is only one oriental rug shop and seeing the methods they use, there is room for improvement production wise. If I can get some good training and equipment, I think I can really make something happen. I've been stalking @rmann Robert Mann's stuff and am just blown away. I feel like I am starting at such humble beginnings, Watching his stuff just makes me dizzy. It's a risk for me but I'm about to go all-in on a rug plant operation. Visiting @Joe Appleby's shop in the Bay Area and seeing how he utilized his space gives me hope. My new shop is 3,055 sqft with 5 roll up doors and 14' ceilings in the middle.

I know it wasn't listed in your two options, but I'm considering the Florida class that Scott suggested. Mainly because it is soon and because they offer classes on how to market the service.

Well, I gotta close escrow first. My head is spinning. I have so much work to do and every decision needs to be a correct one. At least I’m never bored.
My father used to say, ‘you don’t eat a whale in one bite, bit by bit’....
I try to follow that philosophy....

Close on the 17th. I’m not saying too much until the ink is dry. But I can assure you, no grass grows under my feet. :)

Thanks. I close on the 17th so until then I’m not talking too much about plans. But I gots plans :).

I need some white floor epoxy.
Be very careful on what you put down for floor coating.
I know that both Joe A., and Robert M., both said they’ve had trouble with floor epoxy’s....
I know Robert Mann said his coating on his new shop, just in the wash floor area was something like 85k....
Choose wisely Damon....

Floor epoxy is not my area of expertise. I do know that Robert had a company do it for him.
It was a 2 part, and they put down something like 5 coats of clear over it.
It looked very good.
Call Robert M., and ask him...

We acid etched and used a 2 part epoxy. It's been over twenty years and still looks decent in the big garage (3500sq/ft)

We did the same in our laundry area (1500sq/ft) but didn't get up all the preexisting paint and after 10 years it chipped away and looked terrible.

Prep will make a difference.

yikes.

i installed some for a customer that absolutely had too have white lol

came out good but you dont want it in a place where sunlight can hit it. our supplier said there are some supposed be uv protective but they're unstable and chalk out.

other issue is hot tires will damage it if you dont ourchade the right epoxy.

I’m weighing my options and have looked into many floor coatings. After a brief conversation with Robert Mann, I’m convinced white is the only option for a rug shop. He had many good points. The maintenance and touch ups are just part of the routine.

Also. Thanks @T Monahan and @Jim Pemberton for the referrals. I’m currently going through Lisa’s online course until I can get into a hands on course like Aaron’s or some IICRC class. Aaron's course is about $6000 so I’ll need to work up to it.

I’m pretty impressed with Lisa’s online course. Its pretty good. I was skeptical, glad I did it.

Is this Bauers you're talking about?
No. He’s pretty setup and does quality work.

There are a lot of guys out there, espicially in my area, that are doing it wrong. Reno, Sacramento, and some in Oregon seem to have it down.
