I was impressed by our MB friend CJ and his team at the St. Petersburg MF. Equipment they sent was really nice. Beautiful vans, very well organized and sharp uniformed Techs that had been working for that company for years and knew how to clean. Better than most OO I see on FB.
I went to that Fest with an opinion I had of SS for many years and when I left my opinion was flipped.

We should’ve hooked up and cleaned together Bob!

You are right generally but that wouldn't describe the Tampa area SS. These guys pre-vacuum, have Devastator wands and Zipper wands. They were asking questions about CRB's and SS clearhead upholstery tools. Now he seems to putting a blower/dryer on every van. They are stepping up the game and for what I have seen on FB, OO better get more professional quick if Tampa is the future of the SS franchise. SS have the funds to change the game very quickly Nationally. Seriously I was impressed.

True but it costs money to the franchise and they are going to have to want to make the change!

Unless corporate makes it uniform I doubt many will be Like CJ

Ok not to be a boob, but!

My mother in law used a SS FRANCHISE in Agoura for 110 sq ft of tile they charged $190 to clean and seal her kitchen!

I didn’t notice the sealer was shiny, but she noticed 8 months later it started to peel.

So she called and the SS GUY came out and said wow he over charged you and shouldn’t have sealed it with what he used!

Unless you asked for it!

She said she wanted the it sealed

In other words her porcelain grout sealed not have a topical coating applied!

Well they eventually said you waited to long to call, it just started peeling recently!

And if she wanted it fixed it would be $400

My wife made me go down and fix it.

A little stopper and a black pad and boom all the shiny shit gone!

Hard to get it out of all the grout lines!

I make it a point to ask people “about their previous experiences WITHOUT telling me who did the cleaning.” They invariably blurt it out anyhow.
I am puzzled by how often Stanley is the reason they called me, because I have seen the local trucks and they are new and well equipped.
It must boil down to the individual technicians and perhaps, to the number of jobs they have to plow through.

I often hear the same thing from the large franchises. I think it comes down to not being able quality as you grow. Some may have better systems than others. Difficult to manage consistently

Thats it. Quality tanks when you start bringing on employees. I’ve watched the “other” company drop grandy brushes on the hood of a car and cleaned up multiple carpets they have screwed up. I’ve come face to face with them on jobs where they were pissed at me for winning the bids. I’ve seen their toothless employees leave jobsites soaking wet.

My business is at a cross roads right now. I really could benifit from a helper. I need to take the next step. Watch out when I do, because I know it will force me into the next realm of exponential growth for my business. I can honestly say my resources are maxed out right now with just little ole’me doing everything. Although I’m buddies with the other local cleaners, they aren’t very helpful in helping me grow. I get it, its on me to figure it out. I do feel very alone sometimes. Glad MB is here.

I don't know if that's true. Look at that Big company in Texas. Don't they have over 50 vans and more than one location with very good reviews? I'd actually like to meet that company someday

Everyone one of the "big three" multi truck guys that I met in Minnesota were hard working, cheerful, and attentive. I don't doubt that much of the fact the project was completed quickly was their youth, energy, and frankly their experience with working very quickly and efficiently. Everything that I looked over looked good and wasn't in any way over wet.

I was gently teasing one of the younger Zerorez techs about their empowered water and everything being "zerorezified" after he was done.

He smiled, took it with good humor, and probably wanted to beat me to death with his carpet wand....but it didn't show.

He probably sells a lot of protector with that same pleasant way and patience with old men who think they are funny...

Jeez you highering a helper to vacuum and crb and move fans and chip and block all under your supervision is a far cry from the 2 week trained 19 year old flying solo!

Higher some one, and in two years he’ll be a Jedi!

Nomad? You go to church get a young kid from church clean cut and honest first job type!

Teach him to vacuum while you setup, crb while you pre spray!

Just relieving yourself a couple task makes everything easier!

Ya you’ll hate him and call him chimp but you’ll easily cover your expense and do more!

Other then that slow down and raise your rates those are your two options

OK, let me get this straight. Hiring a helper is going to grow your business exponentially? Did you run the numbers? Let me clue you in. Hiring a helper will then demand filling out all those really cool 941 forms not to mention your portion of Social Security/Medicare withholding. So take the payroll expenses, payroll amounts and benefits and figure out what you will need to make each day IN ADDITION to what you are making right now, just to break even to have them on the truck.

When you are able to add a second truck will you be able to grow your business exponentially. but maybe this is for another thread?

I’ve had employees before. Just not in the carpet cleaning business. Whoever I hire he is going to be one lucky dude to hang out with me all day.

You’ll never get your second truck with out a well trained helper! That’s a fact!

I was lucky I had my son and another kid I eventually put out on their own, they did great, am I better? Yes!

But they went to jobs that they could handle!

My lead tech on my second truck has over 5 years experience, he has a helper!

I also have a helper most of the time!

If it’s slow I let them take a day and I rest!
