Motor bogging down

Started yesterday, just thought the inline filter was full, but noticed it was full of water, no blockage.

So today, I hooked straight to the waste tank, 2.5 to 2.

Started out, 3 strokes later, motor bogged down as if I had put my hand over the hose. Checked everything, ran a rag through the hoses, checked belts they are tight, no blockage in the tank.

Started back to work, did the same thing, but this time I kept going, note I still had decent suction, but motor was bogging down. It did this for about 2 minutes and then stop, everything went back to normal.

I am leaning towards an electrical issue now.

Any suggestions?

Just some thoughts is all, Vin

air cleaner needs changed
heat related fuel vapor lock (been pretty fookin' hot ever'where)
Blower needs cleaned (use Bob's clean water induction method...it WORKS!!)
slipping belts can sound like a bog
bearing going bad
unloader valve not opening properly when off the wand trigger

remote possibility ...bad gas
water in fuel (truck driver dumping fuel stirs up water from the bottom of tank)
if he was there last time you got gas.....

BTW, guess we should ask....does your unit run on propane or regular gas?
How many hours ?
Over 500 or under?

if electrical;

the first obvious thing to do is check for loose connections .
if all tight....and it IS electrical ..
need new spark plug(s)
possible weak coil
low oil sensor

a lot of times they just need to be taken apart and cleaned...figure every time that thing opens it sucks all the dirt and crap out of the air...sooner or later that get clogged up and don't want to open...if it is the adjustable type...make sure you mark it if you tear it apart..so you can get it back to the same setting...much easier that way.......

always stick with the easy stuff first before you go all tim taylor on your machine...9 times out of ten it is something stupid and easy....

new air cleaner and plugs ...it's time anyway

if it does it again tomorrow, pull the air cleaner and run....see what happens .
It won't hurt your engine (unless you're in the middle of a dUst bowl storm)
an engine inside a van is a clean environment , so it won't hurt a bit to run a day with no air cleaner
(unless you're in the middle of a dUst bowl storm that day I've seen Jimmy naked

Sounds fuel related. Check fuel lines, make sure they are all tight, check for cracks/splits. Check for plugged fuel filter.
Possibly fuel pump going bad.

It's a "little looked at" item, but could the choke be open a bit and you don't see it? I had a bogging prob with the Genny a few times, and after panicking, it was the choke 1/2 open (or closed). Pushed it in and....waalaa.....ran fine.

Bad gas could be it. There is one gas station in my area I don't buy from anymore. Every time I fill up there my machine sounds like it is running on one cylinder then clears up after 15 or 20 minutes.

When it bogs down, what does your vac gauge read? This will tell you if the relief valve is sticking. If the vac is good I can't see any reason to clean the blower or change the belts. Check ignition wiring for loose connection.

my old Kohler would bog down too,
plugs, air filter, fuel, mine ran on propane and discovered that the ground wire to the fuel lock was loose, it screwed into the back of the engine. With gas it could be a fuel filter, had that happen with a pickup truck; give it the gas and it would stall out.
Could also be the ground wire for the spark. These engines vibrate so it could have worked loose.

Here's what I did

changed air filter
tightened belts
changed spark plug
changed fuel filter

worked 2 jobs today, no problem so far. All wiring looked good, but today wasn't as hot as its been the last few days though, and even before, it worked fine couple weeks ago when we had triple digit heat for 10 days.

So maybe one of the above fixed the problem I don't know for sure.

And another thing, relief valve was good.

thanks for all the help.

You said you had a power loss for a couple minutes but went back to normal.
I don't even worry about issues like that unless they continue or happen again.
It could have been something so simple like a little piece of carbon not letting a engine valve close properly causing the problem.

Recalibrated the starboard flux capacitor recently?
I've had problems with this in the past. But the last couple of days I've been dealing with vapor lock because of the heat. It happens in the evening when the hottest part of the day hits.
