I know salaries vary across the country , just trying to get some averages. I fired my lead tech of three years and I'm looking for a new one. For someone well qualified I'm thinking $40,000 range for my area. (southeast)

As far as insurance your tech can be better off if you let them get their own and get the subsidy aplied to their rates or have their subsidy applied and sent direcly to your insurance company.

I don't really know, and my techs make $14 a hour and averages 35 hrs plus he gets 15% of extra sales he brings in and bonuses for larger DR jobs. So I say you pay pretty well and do they get bonuses for extra's or DR jobs?

That sounds good to me but how about health insurance and pto?
At least single coverage imo is important for long term employees.

Only $14 per hr?

Wow!
Min wage in WA is nearly $10, and many want to raise it to $15.00

The bigger des ion is fining with experience ( may have bad habit you can't break) orgeen that you train to suit.

For smaller co.
For me 1/3 is knowing and doing a good job..thatcanbetrainned
1/3 is customer service skills.
1/3is reliability, trustworthiness, compentant. ( much easier to manage)

Just curious David and Tom & Shane & others.
From the time he starts as a tech, on average (assuming he's not a star, nor very slow) how long does it take him to reach that level of pay?

Would that be a straight pay or is that based off of an average of what the truck will be pulling in for the year?

40-50K would be a supervisor in our company, lead tech 20-30K, assistant 18-22K all amounts subject to how much over time and on call bonuses they work. Those that are go-getters can up their pay by thousands easily, those that are comfortable with their hourly won't make much more than that.

Brian,
How long does it normally take them to reach that level?
How many hours and how many days a week, on average do they have to put in for that salary?

Right now I am doing 15% commission and I have 2 guys to a van. 15% is pretty low for a solo guy but two guys get a lot of jobs done.

Our lowest seniority crew specialist has been with us about 8 years. We don't hire people to be specialists, everyone starts as an assistant and works their way through the ranks.

We have a 2 week rotating schedule that has been pretty effective for us. We have half our crews work Monday through Friday, then have Saturday, Sunday and Monday as optional days. They then work Tuesday through Saturday with Sunday as an optional day. The other half of the crews work just the opposite schedule. If Saturday and/or Sunday are your 6th day worked that week, then you get overtime... Most crews work their optional Monday so that makes that next Saturday overtime. Usually at least half the crews that have Saturday as an optional day work it, giving us around 75% capacity for most Saturdays.

The typical day starts at 7:30 and ends at 3-4 in the afternoon.

We also pay an overtime rate for evening work as well.
