I got this one on EBay. I like it a lot, somebody didn't like it. Cleans great and is super lightweight.
Supposed to work like this:

Mine sprayed all over the place:

Adam at Rotovac was kind enough to send me a new cleaning head for my tool. But the new head also oversprays:

But once you place the tool down on the surface it works great, cleaning forward and back. Good for cleaning bottom aprons while standing.

As well as high speed surface cleaning

If I turn the pressure dial down so there is no overspray from the middle jets, some of the end jets don't spray. It's not possible to get a uniform spray pattern as is shown in the Rotovac ad.

Art;

Is the water volume consistent, across the width of the tool ?

That is more important than the water coming out when in the air.

No, at low flow and no overspray out, it doesn't cover the spray bar, and when you turn the flow up to cover the bar fully, some of the jets start to spit out particularly the upper and lower middle ones. It works fine while on the fabric, I was just hoping I could leave the trigger on for continuous flow to have consistent heat (and not have to use the trigger.) Does the Sapphire Scientific Upholstery Pro have this problem?

No it doesn't, doesn't pay to be cheap. Make sure to make extra dry passes with your super soaker.

Art this is all old news where have you been? It was discovered in Funerary at MF10 to be a little quirky then.

No the Sapphire tool doesn't do it.....well unless you're one of Larry's specialists clients.

Well this sucks ass. Why would Rotovac release a tool to compete with the Upholstery Pro that's not ready for prime time? I got it just in time for my 800 chair commercial job two weeks ago. It was unusable because of the splashing. I reverted to my old standby, the 29 year old internal jet PMF continuous flow tool I modified decades ago to work nonstop. The Sheardry does work well on small individual pieces and looks cool.

Put back on ebay and get a Sapphire. Not only will it look cool but it will clean well too.

Rumor has it that there is another copy cat coming out soon too. But why risk the copy cats, just get the Real Mccoy.

Couldn't agree more, even i sucked it up and bought one from john.

I've never sold anything on EBay. I don't think that I would want the first thing I sold to be an overpriced piece of junk that is unusable. I'll just continue to pretend it's OK and perhaps RV will come out with a fix for it. Otherwise it will be added to the pile of tools in my garage and cellar that are too nice to throw out but aren't good enough to be used for work.

Yea at MF 10 it was spraying everyone in the face and it was hooked up to an El Diablo which had great suction.

I think it will clean fine as long as you maintain contact with the fabric. Just release the trigger when you pull off the fabric.

same here, while contact is maintained on the fabric it worked great (don't say it cleaned great as there was not anything there to clean). when sprayed in the air, it soaked your eyes, pants, other people etc.

i believe someone here bought one and has had one for a while but don't remember who it was.

i did love the video of the tool where the guy holds the spray bar with a finger on each side to contain the overspray, that was priceless.

I SAID "I think" it would clean fine. Nothing about "it cleaned great".

Were you even there? I thought you were in the bathroom practicing you speech in the mirror. :p

Art, have you taken your problems to Rotovac ??

It's taken many years, but I have found that by going to the top of the pecking order and telling the top honcho the problems I have had with equipment, I have been listened to & the concerns addressed.

Usually in the way of free parts (with particular problems), or an offer of an exchange of equipment.

In the case of a particular vacuum, after I complained, they told me what to do, that didn't work.

I then sent (at their expense) the vac; to Sydney for "repair", that's 2,000 miles each way.

A month after I got the vac; back, the firm contacted me, I told them I was still not happy.

They told me to keep the vacuum and sent a top of the line model to me................... free of any cost.

That, my friend is customer appreciation, or even after sales service.

:yoda:

If it is not designed to be, or advertised as a continuous flow tool, why bash it for not performing like a continuous flow tool?

From their ad,'The Rotovac ShearDry Upholstery Tool cleans in both directions with no overspray or dripping,' one would kind of expect there would be no overspray or dripping. It can be very messy using it . I need to tarp off floors and surrounding furniture and not shoot water onto paintings on the wall and lampshades etc. That's not time efficient. That's why Iswitched to an internal jet tool in the 80's, so I wouldn't have these problems. The sprayhead looks exactly like the SS Upholstery Pro which can be set to continous flow. It was my mistake to think the RV tool would perform the same. I'm just showing it doesn't and am hopeful there will be a fix for this very troublesome defect. Otherwise it's an excellent tool.

The ShearDry is not intended to be a tool that you can hold up in the air and spray without over spray or dripping. It is intended to clean upholstery without over spray or dripping and that is what exactly it does. The ShearDry has two water canals adjacent to the two vacuum slots that actually fill with water uniformly from the solution holes during cleaning. The water is then sucked across the fiber with a shearing action in an even flow with no over spray or dripping. Another advantage of this water delivery system is that you do not get the spray lines on the fabric like you do with the SS tool. In addition, the vacuum slot is closer to the nose and edge than the SS tool for closer corner and edge cleaning.

It's amazing to me that a "company" can completely rip off your idea and all the R&D and still get it wrong.
The ShearDry is no more a rip off of your idea than your Hoss is a rip off of the RX-20. Only difference is that the ShearDry is an improvement where I can't say the same for the Hoss. Remember that the owner of Rotovac (Cliff Monson) is the inventor of Rotary Extraction, so who is copying who and still getting it wrong. Remember the DryMaster disaster? The ShearDry tool works fantastic so for you to say we got it wrong is simply not true. Throwing stones from a glass house is generally not a good idea.
