Overengineered Performer 405 Heat By Pass System

Is there a configuration in which the Performer 405 will not bypass water to the waste tank, or will there always be a certain volume of fresh water being squandered?

When I had a performer I moved the bypass to my fresh water tank to help preheat the water.

I gained 10 degrees of working heat by doing this.
