What are the benefits of pile lifting as opposed to regular vacuuming?

Can a pile lifter be used for agitating pre-spray with out damaging the machine?

What selection of brushes should I stock or is a brush a brush?

Can you believe I picked one up on E-bay for under $200?

They are actually much like a vacuum, but more aggressive. So in impacted areas they can remove more soil & grit.

No I would not use them for agitation, they are really for dry soil.

The brand we used only had one brush available, so I'm not sure on brushes.

Sounds like you got a good deal!

I've used two different kinds, Jer

a Chemspec PB and a certified PB

I own a cert PB.

The Cert PB is far and away a better PB IMO

we use our Cert PB to agitate pre-spray.
Clean out the sand trap, cause it will make mess of it.
But so far, we haven't had any problems with ours using it that way.

I got a great deal on mine too.
It was already rebuilt and looked new.
If I paid full price for a new one, I'm not so sure I would of tried it as a wet agitator though.

They excel at digging out grit, or impacted soil.
However, they're NOT a great vacuum cleaner IMO

Jeremy, I agree they are not great in the vacuum department but nothing better for getting out heavy dry stuff like sand. I was amazed how much sand I pulled out of carpets here by the beach. Really good for badly soiled traffic areas on cut pile carpets after a normal vacuum and before HWE. I think I did see a post somewhere ages ago (on ICS??) from someone who disconnected the vac to agitate trashed traffic lanes, and also from guys who successfully offer pile lifting as a seperate service.
Great machine to have handy IMO, especially if you picked it up for 200 bucks.

Jeremy;

I think the Certified Pile Brush is a great vacuum.

It does have to be maintained and the vacuum sealed around the dirt trap.

You need the Nylon brush if you are going to use it with your prespray.

I think it is called a pile lifter for that reason or it would be called a pile vacuum

I don't have one but have used one, great to loosen the dirt before HWE
