You will lose lift and gain air flow. Probably a wash with 2-2 stages, unless they are high performance.

You just accept that it is less capacity and so you go much slower.

Switch to 3 stage if you can. Otherwise don't make any changes. Just buy a better porty.

If it only has a single 2 stage vac abort any idea of modifying it.
My PB3 had a single stage vac with 1.25" hose. When I tried to use an upholstery tool with a 1.5 inch hose it was an epic fail.
