My Apex will start and run as long as I hold the "Pump Override Switch" in the Override position. As soon as I turn it to the "Off" or "On" position, the machine dies. What causes this?

Could be this

relay..

Could be oil pressure switch, or high temperature switch(less likely).. If you ground out your high temperature switch you can eliminate it.. I would start with the relay.

You can get it locally just make sure you DON'T get a BLINKER RELAY!!

You should be able to feel the relay click when you put the key the the "run" position(not start).. There is a thread here about it.

Check your radiator fluid too if it gets low machine will die too. Probably what Able says it it's worth a look.

Not sure if the Apex has a low pressure switch either. With 405 you could bypass most switches with a wire to test them or trouble shoot.

Also make sure the float in the waste tank isn't stuck up or bad.

I actually learned a lot of this from guys on here.. Gardner and Martin helped me out a lot on this one..

Oil pressure switch is under the alternator..

High temperature switch is on the side of the coolant block thingy..

I found that the wire leading to the float valve had been pulled just far enough so that the connectors were pulled loose from the terminals inside the float switch housing. The wire wasn't pulled out of the housing, it was pulled just enough to disconnect it inside. Reconnected it and we're all good.

That'll do it.. In the future, if the want to take that switch out of question you can jump the connection..

I agree with above not a bad idea to carry. Couple of these on the truck as they will save you time and frustration when you need them.
