The 870 never had a GM in it. The original 870 had the Ford in it. That motor was discontinued which forced us to find a different motor. We then went with the Hyundai. That motor was also discontinued, which again forced us to find a different motor. We have since gone with the Kubota, and anyone who has ran a Kubota can attest to their durability, their performance, and their track record. They are very well known and we don't foresee them discontinuing this motor. We are very confident in this set up and have backed it with a 5 year warranty.

Which manual? I just went through all 870 manuals and none of them list the GM.

Given the sequence # it would have come after the Ford.
That isn't out of an 870 manual. That is out of a TMT 888 manual.
