What causes some carpet to puff up after cleaning. Carpet was almost dry when I left cust. house. She called me about two hours later and said her carpet was all puffed up. I had this happen to mea couple of times told them it would go back down by next day and did.

I got the same situation a few weeks ago. It was a very large room and I suppose it's hard to stretch the carpet properly in that situation. I told them it would go away in a few days. They haven't called back.

what do you mean "puffed" up?

you mean "humped" or wavy "rolls" that pop up?

The most common cause is poor installation.
Fortunately, it almost always goes back down to where it was when completely dry .

it's more common in loop piles and com, but happens occasionally with cut piles too

Some start to roll with just minimal pre-spray before you ever put a wand or bonnet to them

Don't know what kind of heat you arelaying down??? But the steam softens the latex
in the backing & relaxes the backing. Thats where the "PUFFS" are coming from. Once the
moisture is gone. The latex will contract & become rigid again. Should be fine in 24 hours."DON'T PANIC!!!"

PS Meat is correct as usual.poor installation is also a factor/wasn't POWER-STRETCHED.

I have a Butler running temp 200 at wand which is plenty. Two and half all the way with 25 ft whip two inch. It was raining so gave it two dry strokes and brought in air movers. It was almost dry when I left. This has happen to me before only twice . I know it will go back down and told her so. Thought it would make for a good subject. Thanks to all STEVE.

Wired,
One of our units has the same set up......Great units! this would have happen to
whoever did the cleaning....NOT YOUR FAULT!!!!

PS we lost about 10 degrees of heat with the 2.5 hose. But dry times increased
by 30 to 45 minutes!!!!! well worth the sacrafice in heat.

Wired, high humidity, and a stiff backing, and it will happen every time. A poorly installed carpet can contribute to the problem. The first time it happened to me 33yrs. ago, I was using a low heat portable on stiff com. carpet, freaked me out. It was a friday night and by mon. morning it was back to normal.

Ok I made a joke anther post about how mikey followed the lady around the house for an upsell.. But guys this is a no brainer. If it wrinkles, even if its because of the heat, this is a great time to upsell a restretch or atleast recommend that she have her installer come back and do it. If it can loosen when cleaned it will loosen up with traffic. Do you want Mrs. P to buy new carpet and not call back for a few years or do you want to keep cleaning it every year and help her get some more life out out of it? If you don't know how and want to learn take an RRT class. Or find a decent installer and subcontract him to work for you. Will the wrinkles go away, sure, does that mean the problem went away. No. Older Jute back and some wool carpets with woven backings when stretched properly will hold a stretch forever figuretively speaking. But the new action backs made out of polypropolen will stretch and stretch and... Point being is they have to be restretched at some point. And its not always poor install.. most of the time yes. but if its a cheap carpet with low pick count it will need restretched a couple of times. because the weak back does not ahold a stretch well.

The butler's 5.8 blower is a 47. They used to call it the 5.8 because it moved 558 cfm.

Which always cracked me up...cause if you look at the performance curve of a MD 4007 blower, at 3000 rpm and 15"hg it's making 350 cfm. Numbers baby..it's all marketing.

That being said, you ain't getting 350 through 200' of 2" hose anyways...lol
