Some directories that are higher in PR rank are asking for a reciprocal link, is this a bad idea? Are a few ok? Curious what Dave and Shane think about this.

Do NOT do reciprocal linking with directories. The directory having a higher page rage and more 'weight' with the search engines is only going to benefit from that link, and you'll be penalized and possibly flagged. If you really want the link that bad pony up the $$$ and not get the free listing. If you can find a relevant site(other carpet cleaners) that have a decent page rank, a few reciprocal links aren't going to hurt. Also all of your backlinks do not have to be Do-Follow links, having some No-Follow links are okay as they look natural.

Natural one-way links are still the best way, and its only going to tighten throughout the year as google updates and audits.

I would be careful of any cheating over this summer until we see what this update means in real life. We know the g-man wants to go after spammers hard but they always say that.

Right now for my skill level we focus mainly on blogs, for pros like fred/hoody its different, they understand it on a different level. Just playing it safe for now.
