When we evaluate attending an event we look at the ROI data that we have available (our internal data from past attendance) or what is supplied by the event coordinators. ROI drives the extent to which we dedicate money and resources since everything is limited. Often times in addition to booth costs vendors are asked for sponsorship monies, equipment etc. many times there is more than a bit of if you don't do it I'll ask your competitor stuff as well. As for if the salary costs etc. should be calculated into the expense of attending a tradeshow Ken is correct that in terms of tax accounting the costs are the same but the opportunity costs are not so we calculate these expenses into our ROI analysis. For us to simply not look at the total costs as well as individual costs like travel meals etc. one would have to believe that these expenses couldn't be spent doing anything better.
I have absolutely no information on this event other than what's been posted here so I can't make any direct comment on it. I will say that while we attend smaller events we really prefer those that have at least 50 vendors so the selection of products, education and networking opportunities makes the event worth our customers time and drives attendance especially those people who have to be very selective with their hard earned money and can't just go to every show that some group decides to create.

Bill have you ever considered not doing a show but spending those same funds on a target group that has high potential for purchasing. Providing them limo service, round trip air fare, lodging, extravagant meals and perhaps a gift? Ya know, wine & dine them, show them your facilities in hopes that they may make a purchase. Target rich environment!

Or you could pay a guy to stand out in the parking handing out cash and the company brochure. That would work for me too!

I don't know much more then most here . But a few extras are

It's not a Mytee show, John is involved , in getting it off the ground . but wants the show to be by the industry, for the industry .it will be open to ALL the big boys and the smaller manufacturing companies , as well as distributors .
the Goal of the event is to have a event where small med or large can all afford to attand and show their products

for the cleaner it's affordable event to go to . its on for 2 days. the seminars would be either low cost or free and not the tony Robbins type seminars of other shows. But more like what you get at MF As the show looks forward I believe it is ment to be an event where sapphire ,or hydramaster and the others don't have to drop a Ton of money to a show with limited opening hours in a dated venue where someone else is trying to make a profit off them

i do hope sapphire are at the show Bryan does a great tile class ,Rick still owes me a pint as well. Along with butler ,at ,hm ,Judson, Amtex,Cobb,oxley it would be fun to compare a ss370 to a ****** unit

Hey Mike,

To be honest I don’t know what a 10 x 10 booth costs at the show. Normally variables with the different booths (end of aisle, main aisle, etc…)

A good rule of thumb on travel is $1,000 per person per week (airfare, hotel, food, transportation). If you figure a 10X10 would have two people you have $2K in travel expenses alone.

Shipping is another large cost. Once it arrives at the show, you pay to have it taken into and out of your booth. Then you have electricity (if needed), tables, carpet, chairs, trash cans, daily cleaning, etc….Of course with a 10x10 you might not have a lot of extra charges.

Show sponsorship is another large cost but is totally voluntary. The Prochem party for us isn’t cheap but we think it is our way of giving back a little, saying thanks and supporting the industry.

I would say if you went cheap with a 10X10 you could do it for $4K - $5K in Vegas. Would really have to watch the expenses though. Not sure how many booths the average vendor gets but you can’t get much into a 10X10 space if you have equipment.

Why don't you ask John to comment here since all I'm getting is conflicting stories.

Jon Don, Interlink and Sapphire have not gotten the personal invite from John that many other companies have so how can you say all are welcome?
He has been planning this since right after M9F so why not let the big boys know early on so that budgets can be considered early on.

Since he is virtually duplicating my event one month before, it makes me think it's just a bunch of sour grapes and a "I'll teach him not to berate my machine that would not turn" sort of deal...

I received a second indication Friday that the I.c.e. show will be the iicrc promoted show at least this year.

My contact also stated that tony was not at the wheel any longer as of last week, so I am not 100 percent sure about everything ?
