The only thing I can think an OP manufacturer can make a brush head with a pad in the center like an adjust-a-glide.. Basically like the small shitty Oreck orbiter has.. A single or double row of brushes on the rim, but soft enough to let the unit spin..

He confirmed my observations.

OPs don't spin under heavy load.

If thats the case then a lot of people are being misled, lied to and ripped off by those op makers that sell weight kits, because by adding weight you ARE putting more of a load on the machine, the more weight the more the load on the machine, and thats just common sense right there folks.

I'm aware of the fact that there are a number of different op machines out there and some are better then others, in other words maybe machine "A" with a weight kit on it may lose half it's rpm under load of a weight kit while machine "B" may lose three quarters of it's rpm under load of a weight kit but the fact remains the same on any machine. That fact is the more the load you put on any op machine the more of its spin or rpm's you'll lose, just a little more common sense, just like running vacuum hose on an extractor, the longer the hose run the more you'll have a reduction in suction. Again, i know that all extractor are not created equally and the loss of suction on longer hose runs will be less with the better equipment.

Hey Nate The Great I think your onto something here. A carpet brush for full size op machines where the center has an adjust-a-glide like the ones already in existence on the carpet brushes for the 175 rotaries with a few rows of brushes along the outside that are soft enough to let it spin but yet still stiff enough to get the job done. Having the adjust-a-glide thingie in the center is the key

The weight kits are for hard surface was my understanding.

We'll get to the bottom of this at MF

Vibe vs Vario shootout!

It would make more sense that the weight kits were meant to be used on hard surfaces, but i think a lot of guys use them on carpets as well. I could however be wrong.

I'm not sure why you would need a brush on a op machine anyway. I think pads and bonnets are more effective. Kind of like the Cimex. They have brushes but most people seem to like the pads better.

I used to have a cimex, i had both the brushes and the pad driver so that i could use the pads as well, can't say that i liked one more then the other, they both worked well, it just depend on the type of carpet. I guess the same would be true with an op machine, there might be times i'd prefer a pad/bonnet and other times maybe the brush, it would just be nice to have the option available if someone would just make a carpet brush that would work good on a full sized op machine, we put a man on the moon many many many years ago. Someone can't design a carpet brush for an op machine.

Yep shouldn't need extra weight on carpet. Use more prespray.

A little extra head weight on an OP machine can be a nice option for carpet cleaning. As long as the machine is balanced properly to handle the weight, it can still run smoothly on carpet. We've worked hard on the Vario machine for 3 years to get the balance dialed in. The VARIO PRO has hit the sweet spot. You'll have a chance to see a weighted OP machine that handles as nimble as a sports car at MikeysFest.

The round discs you see below are weights...

I'm a long time Orbot user and I can tell you that the weight kit makes a big difference when cleaning a variety of surfaces, including carpet. In days gone by the weight kit had individual plates. You could adjust the number of plates depending on condition and floor type. For example, you'd almost always want to run two plates per side on residential (*gasp*). Tile and grout would typically be three per side. I believe HOS changed this to one combined weight/plate, but I'm not entirely sure.

Mikey, you mentioned the machine not being able to support a brush. This would be running the brush on carpet only, correct? If so, that may be the case. However, I can tell you that the tile and grout brush for the Orbot is great and jiggle-wiggles the grout clean. The bristles are cut just right.

Like the others above, I too have a Mytee as well. It's been solid so far. It and the Orbot seem to perform similarly.

Finally, let me say that this is a great time for low moisture and dual method cleaners. Never before have there been so many options with competitive pricing. Between the Vibe, Mytee, Vario, Cimex, Liberty and Champ you can find a machine that suits your wants and budget.
