In today's online opportunity, post COVID world, when you consider all the sills that "we" require our from our technicians, starting pay should be $40 an hour bare minimum.

and even that won't get you a young person who has even half of these qualities...

People person
Good work ethic
Attention to detail
Understanding of basic chemistry (and the concept of gravity)
Moderately mechanical
Physically fit
Soft Salesmanship
Responsible

Ok, there's a difference in a helper and a cleaning tech. What do you start a helper out? Going wage of a good janitor, and I mean a good one. Or maybe less and work him or her into a good tech?

My guys are paid commission, which comes out to about $30-$50 an hour.
How in the world do you pay 50 per hour, match social security & pay 15 -30% workers comp???? Carpet Cleaning????or at that rate are you paying social security & workers comp.?. Workers comp was the nail in the coffin and made me go back from 3 employees to owner operator

Im not suggesting to not have a helper, on the contrary. What is fair wage for a newbie hose puller,
help get the shiate outta the van and set up, and vacuum? You don't pay that person 40-50 per hr do you?

Does that hourly rate include when they are driving around, or just on site in customers homes or businesses?
Entire time in the van and with clients.

We charge a decent price.
Its a difficult Job and want to appreciate my crew. my crew stay years with me.

AND its San Francisco-- $50/hr is still near poverty level.
$100k is still poverty for a family of 4.

What about General Liability? Employees are expensive.
$1600/a year. Vehicle insurance is $8500.
They dont work 40 hours a week.
They dont milk the clock because they are paid on commission. Redos are done on their own time because they obviously went too fast and failed to do a proper job. Redos seldom happen.

Of course you can't do that everywhere. San Francisco isn't Oklahoma City for sure. Again I get the tech who goes out like Marty's son and you can sleep at night. They're worth their weight in gold.
That's not the same as a Donk.
