im realizing im going to need to offer some level of carpet services to fill out my schedule. i want a portable extractor system that can cover the common services requested that can be done with a machine thst fits in the back of an suv. trying to keep the budget around $3-4k for the machine, plus a 2-3k for accessories and chemicals. any suggestions on where to start looking and what at? i have a low speed and bonnets, but much of what i read lately seems to say bonnets are going out of fashion due to wear and tear on the carpet. point me in a direction please and thank you!

PEX 500 is in that range. Makes a good traveling porty. Quite too. Bonnets are not out of style. There’s so many different kinds. Fiber pads would be a good thing for agitation. Pads, bonnets, 175, and a good porty is a good start.

I wouldn't turn my nose up at a Mytee. They make one machine with a General pump that gives good flow up to 1000 psi and way longer life than the pumptec or Cat high pressure portables. You can add accessories as you see fit from auto fill/dump to external heaters. Be aware that most Mytee machines need 20 amp circuits or you're going to have to ad a cord.

so i have a follow up... how important is a heated resevoir? im guessing it dries faster and loosens grime up better? and, is steam usually a whole other piece of gear? im guessing steam is more for hard floors and uoholstery- assuming this is another step up in price for the gear... im looking into this stuff now but if anybody has some advice in this it would help. if i can find something in my budget that serves as an all in one i can save some $ in the long run instead of needing to buy new gear and upgrades after a few months... im pretty sure steam ckeaning is the next logical move after adding carpet services. i dont want to assume commercial jobs will always be there, so residential services should be part of the operation.

As I stated, the Hydramaster PEX 500 is your Swiss Army knife. It will do everything you want it to do. It #even heats the water for you. Heat makes cleaning easier, just like washing dishes🤷🏼‍♂️ It even has high and low heat. It has pressure release valve for unlocking tools. If you have the budget for it,
that machine is the Swiss Army of Porty’s.

These are really good machines, I agree.

There is no steam in steam cleaning. It's just got water. How hot depends on the type of machine. There are no heated reservoirs, just inline heaters. Having a machine with built in heat means having less vacuum as there is not enough power on 2 cords to have heat and good vacuum power. Better off to get the most powerful machine vacuum and pressure wise, then add an inline heater with its own power cord. Most machines and inline heaters won't keep up with a carpet wand but are great for upholstery.

The hottest machine I ever used was a powrflite perfect heat, it used coils around the vac motors and then last step through an electric heater. The rest of the machine was crap. 5 gallons recovery going to a 15 gallon fresh tank, vacuums in series, a lot of other things that weren't right.
I ended up getting a kleenrite heatrite 2 with 3250 watts of heat and after changing out the 180 degree thermostats for 220, my heat was pretty good. The only downside was 2 separate circuits. My machines always took 2 circuits, so Mr. AMPS was a concern. You get to accept the limitations of electric powered equipment.
Again, look at the mytee website and consider the machine with the General pump. It maxes out at 1000 psi so that would give you more than enough pressure for hard surface cleaning. The posted vacuum numbers are good for a balanced electrical machine. I'll see if I can find some pics of my vac boosting days.

so funny thing.... i just found out my 'job of a lifetime " may actually take a lifetime to start (lifetime of a lesser invertebrate perhaps?) my big heist is postponed due to the building im working at being "nonexistent " according to the county. apparently the guy who owned it before the developers im working with had an addition put on his warehouse without any permits etc so now they have to rip up about a foot and a half of concrete and cut through rebar to expose all the buried electrical and plumbing for inspection to get the proper permits- (insert meme of dog in burning house telling himself "this is fine" here). i saw a pic of the inside and there was alot of orange spray paint on the floor. last i heard it was about a month delay, so that really means 45-60 days. guess the pex500 will be my xmas gift to myself now? on the bright side a 1000+sq ft job landed on my desk 2min after receiving the news, so im still afloat. so much for buying toys and anything resembling a vacation another year. when the last one was 1999 it doesn't really make a difference. im building character! lol
