Turns out they left me the garage door opener but the demand door was shut from inside but they gave me permission to do what it took to get in...

no phone coverage for youtube access?

that draft strip might stop a plastic card..

I think the card with bet corner probably would have worked....maybe a flexible putty knife

with no picks or drill I'd have probably busted the lockset cause it's cheap. Mike tore up $850 worth of lumber :D

really I'd have declined the break in

I had to do it last week with the customer on the phone.

Tip for the idiot who broke the door frame:
-Put a card in between the door and frame like always. Pull the door towards you and push the card more in the wedge while pulling, then push the door open. Whalah! duh

An early life's lesson from my father was how to get past locked doors.

He showed me partly because you do need to do that sometimes in a service business or as a landlord, and partly because sometimes you're an idiot and lock yourself out of your own house.

As a last resort, he showed me how to kick a door open too.

It was one of his many "Don't tell your mother I showed you this" lessons from him.

Fitting for Father's Day Weekend.

I don't know a lot about breaking into homes but I do know that if installed properly the little piece circled below will not go into the strike plate when the door is closed. This then locks the latch bolt and prevents it from being jimmied open.

Try it sometime with the door open. Push the circled piece in and then try to push the latch bolt in.

I use to joke with the maintenance guys that I had a master key. My pocket knife.
Now they have put security plates on all the main entrances.

Had to break in another place because Genny locked the keys in. Ruined my credit card but got in.

I don't know if anybody here recalls the story of the last time I had to break into a house..

I'm not sure if I ever put that one into print but it's pretty freaking embarrassing.
