I have an general amount I'm willing to spend on pet health care even, and if they get an illness and it will cost more than that, I kill them. I hate it, and I've cried over putting animals down in the back yard, but sometimes it's the balanced thing to do, because it's an animal, even if it's a "friend." I could have 500 grand in the bank and I wouldn't spend 20k on cancer care for a dog. Just my opinion.
Just like like my daddy taught me. I already paid for several lump to be removed. They are aggressive and keep coming back. She 11 now. Great dog and served me well. But she starting to suffer. Ill be putting her down soon.

Not familiar with that expression. She was wheezing rough last night but today, she's fine. Her growth grew really fast the past 6 mos and it quivers a lot. She was in pain. I will be getting her some pain med to make easier for her. Id say she good for another summer but this winter is affecting her more so this time.

Both our dogs have had mast cell tumors removed. They are both older for their breed, our Lab is almost 13 and our Boxer is 9 and 1/2. Including the above surgeries, we do spend a decent amount on keeping them healthy. Our Boxer is on heart medication and our Lab gets daily doses of pain medication. With that though, we won't put them through anymore complicated procedures. If it comes to that, we will just try and keep them comfortable for as long as possible.

When the time comes for both of them, it will be tough but we are going to try taking a break from dogs. With our schedules, vacation and retirement plans, it is getting harder to find someone to watch them when we are away.

Also, I read somewhere recently that the person wasn't going to be replacing their pets because they couldn't take the heartbreak when they pass. That resonated with me. As much as our dogs can be a pain in the butt at times, there is nothing like the greeting I get everyday when I get home.

Here they are from a few years ago, looking not too happy getting their pictures taken.
