Other than him, screw employees.
I gots me some cheap child labor but I don't think she wants to make a career out of it. I'm glad you have your boy out there.

"Oh I have three trucks and 3 technicians working"

Translated, you work on one van with a helper (your wife) one is a backup in the garage and the other one is a POS with the local drunk doing pizza huts late at night.

I hear the same BS at every dist BBQ.

that is correct. Started in 1981 by myself. Then added a truck (actually my sister in law was the lead tech) but dont remember the year. Gradually added a third truck (two with a lead and helper and third truck with just a lead) had a 1200 sq ft shop. I had everything down, Hiring, Planning, Training, etc. So we came to a point where we could either grow vertically (add more services in the same service area) OR horizontally (same services in a larger service area)

Did a TON of research and found Service Team of Professionals - IE Mack Clark. Was with them for five years. Added Fire/Water Damage Restoration. Learned a TON of Business Management.

Long story short, we grew to a big company and I had no family life. Things happened and I came to realize I lost a lot of family time so my wife and I decided to dump it all, get a house we could work out of and be an Owner Operator. Best decision I made.

we float around 1.5-2 and a window washing operation.

prefer to pay for labor and have free time.. definitely adds expense but imo worth every penny.

I get so much work done around the house, lots of time with my new baby and my dogs. Also cold rainy mondays are a lot more enjoyable when your not hauling hoses all over the place and swinging a wand.

my experience is that passive income is worth pretty much double non passive income lol

Till you get hurt bad (God forbid) and can’t work for months

7-7-92 was a wake-up call for me
Violent crash, unable to walk for a month , let alone work, six month rehab, sole income provider
If not for inlaw’s $ubsidies, I’d of sunk

Never been without a wingman (at minimum part time) since

Never wanted to be a multi-trucker.
Just wanted to make more and work less

I have three trucks and three full time guys, run two vans every day, two techs per truck (I'm the fourth guy). I'd like to get to 3 vans/5-6 techs and me only occasionally cleaning, I think I'd be good there, but I used to think I'd be good where im at now. I did have to take a lower paying commercial account to pay for the 3rd full time guy.

I gots no dreams. I’m just tired all the time. I work my ass off and play catch up on the weekends. Im so busy building my rug shop and saving every penny so I can buy automated equipment. I’m forcing a square peg through a round hole. I have no friends and my dog bites me.

Epxand please, I know got loads of tales
Way too many tales for phone typing. Now have 4 tm in isuzu trucks. 3 techs one office pt bookkeeper. Me in my truck checking jobs reviewing bids. 80% wdr fire, mold, biohazard. Rest is cleaning. I'm 64 and have worked pt for 14 years. It has been a great way to go for me personally. Had one employee for 17 and one for 11 years. Way too many losers to count. The funny one I remember is one guy who was due to be let go. So, I sent him on a task that would take him by his house. This guy was addicted to TV cartoons. I gave him 15 minutes and drove by his house and there he was. Sitting in his house with the truck out front. Watching cartoons. I waited at the office for him to return and fired him. 3 years later I called a cab for a ride home (drinking). Driver says remember me. I said nope. He says I used to work for you. I said if you are driving a cab for minimum wage I'm guessing it didn't end well.he did not laugh.
