What would be your first choice for under $500??

Also, I'm looking to buy some WD equipment if you have some for sale.
Thanks,
James

Don't know if has changed, however the phoenix unit we have - has to be sent to china for calibration. Our delmhurst has been fantastic, can be calibrated in the states, and is reasonable cost and turn time.

Of what units you consider, get the calibration cost, where it has to be sent, and timeline - factor that into the equation.

We calibrate everything annually.

Don't know what you have, know, or need still, but get a stick, non-destructive (tramex), and a penetrating as well.

You'll need them all.

Yea ...... started making a list of all the things I'm gonna need to "start up" doing WDR. List keeps getting longer and longer every day. That's why I'm looking for some "used" equipment instead of purchasing all new. But, I'm not finding much used stuff out there.

I use a fluke 971 I have had it for years. its not really marketed to our industry and you have to use the pie wheel to figure out GPP. I think its a quailty unit that I paid under $300 for.

Can't answer that - imo the only person that can, is the one who has owned it, sent it in to be calibrated, and can tell you how much it's off each year. Just that it has worked and spat out readings for 3 years trouble free isn't enough - without being calibrated, they could be the wrong readings.

I's steer clear of used meters. You'd really want to calibrate anything used as soon as you get it unless the seller just did it, even more uncommon.

Buy new meters, mid line at minimum. If you want to save money on used gear, go that route with dehus and fans.

This is what I have in my meter cases:

http://www.jondon.com/delmhorst-bd-10-moisture-meter.html
http://www.jondon.com/hydrosensor-i-moisture-sensor.html

As far as how to build a stock -

The ratio I keep on hand based on what we have needed historically:

For every 1 xl dehu:
10-12 airmovers
1-2 axials

Past that, 1 air scrubber every 5 dehus and respective number of am's and axials

Buy good meters first, hydro-x second (must have imo), dehu's& ams third, wall and floor systems next, desiccant next, heated drying 2-3 years later if you have spent at least 3 times the cost in rentals in that time period and can do it with cash. (I still don't own one...lol).

If you are serious about diving in - spend the money on good gear, buy what makes sense to own first, rent the rest and buy it as you have EXTRA cash in hand. Don't bet the farm - because you can't make it rain.

This Extech model is probably the best value on the market at under $200. http://interlinksupply.com/index.php?item_num=AC113. I don't think it displays GPP directly. You have to calculate that. Otherwise the accuracy and settling time for RH equals any other.

The absolute best while staying under $500 is this HT-4000 from Delmhorst - http://interlinksupply.com/index.php?item_num=AC8230
It will show GPP directly, plus vapor pressure in various units and it compensates for temperature changes.
