I have always preferred to use the soft white brushes.

I use the brushes on most, but on some cheap grubby poly's; I will use pads.

Brushes if we use the Cimex and are cleaning in the tank but mostly we just use a slow speed rotary with a carpet brush fitted.

Pads if doing low moisture or fixing a wicking problem

On large rugs, I use the VS1 (white soft brush). Adjusting the height level of brush. On smaller rugs, I use a Sears small two brush rotary (soft white brushes).

I have brushes on the Cimex...the 'soft' ones...they still seem very agressive...maybe I need to break them in some more on concrete. I usually use a soft union mix brush on a 175 rotary....sometimes the soft brush on on Oreck Orbitec.

I use the soft white brush under the cimex. It's second hand (as you probaby know), so IU would assume it's already broken in. They seem to be pretty soft. Alot easier and safer that a rotary imo.

I know Kevin Pearson uses the pads almost all the time with great success.

Q: Mikey, do you know why Randy is big and buffed?

A: He only hand washes all the rugs. No rotary tools.

I always use brushes on wool rugs with the Cimex. I have been using this system for 34 years.
Use the 3807 or 4807 brush which is the softer brush but the 3805 or 4805 works well also.

If the rug is in good shape, it works great and does not distort, there is no torque on the Cimex like there is on a single disc swing machine. If you have any fiber slippage the Cimex will roll this into the brushes or leave it on the face of the carpet. Most of the time this is never a problem since most of the fiber slippage will come out over time or with vacuuming anyway.

It does a great job of lifting the pile and the agitation cannot be beat. Brushes just get the fibers agitated better than pads, IMO.

Couple of shots showing the brushes with the Cimex and the small Wool Rug to be cleaned.
