I showed up at an empty house yesterday and met the owner as she was seeing it for the first time after her tenants moved out.
Her plans are to move in for a while than go travel the continent by RV.
Not a single visible spot or traffic lane on the carpet was left by the tenants but the layer of dust on every single surface was incredible. Window blinds and casings, ceiling fans, baseboards, door moldings, spider webs in every corner....just everywhere.

The carpet had been vacuum but the machine must not have had a brush roll because with every step a puff of dust would poof up.
If I didn't know better I'd sware the last residents were ghosts.

I strongly suggested that she spend the next few days dusting/cleaning everything but the carpet and that I'll come back during the week to do the carpet.

33 years, never seen anything like it.

we did a room with a bed in it taking up most of the room.. went to speed dry it with our new down draft fans and out shot a tornado of dust wads from under the bed all over the room. clean home except I guess they haven't vacuumed under their bed in 10yrs.

That’s exactly what happened to my girls last week, except it was concrete dust throughout the house. Inside of cabinets, in the toilets, dust everywhere. They did an initial clean with backpacks.

Did the dust plug them up fast?
We have a couple smaller shop vacs for stuff like that. Thought about trying the back packs but afraid they will plug up.

We use the soft brush on cabinets and counters.damp rags for ledges and trim.

No, they don’t plug up fast unless you are vacuuming sheetrock powder. I use one for the convenience and HEPA benefits. It allows me to go under and around pretty much everything.
Use horsehair brushes for dusting and doing baseboards, not nylon.

this one's better still
larger/heavier

We use it in new construction mostly for cleaning out cabinets and vents.

concrete vacs are nice for drywall dust and of course concrete dust.. every 30 seconds or so the filter smacks down and beats the dust out.
