Have you noticed the industry magazines and videos regarding advertising? Magazine Publishers say, 'If you rent the space for advertising, you can just about say just anything you want.' Why? It is not considered editorial. However they will tell you that there are some exceptions: No suggestion or sex abuse or pornography, drug or alcohol abuse, or substance. However, lying is permitted. You likely can get away with copyright and trademark infringements too. Odd arena we are subjected to view if we choose - eh?

A timely topic Tom.

I recently refused to let a "company" advertise here because they have no traceable location, email address, IP address and make claims about other advertisers products that can not be substantiated.
To make it worse when this person was a member and posing as a carpet cleaner here, all sorts of red flags were there about their true identity and intent.

I'm sure the other media outlets in this industry would just grab his money and run.

Advertising is a subtle instructor.

I wonder how many here on Mikey's Board think that the media, especially industry magazines, should allow advertisers to promote their products and services without filtering them for truth? A case in point that should catch their attention is when someone makes a practice to speak for their competitors products and/or services in their paid space for advertising?

Good for you Mikey!

My favorite is when I see cleaners advertise chemical free cleaning. There is more bullshit advertising claims in this industry then just about anywhere else.

Years ago we beat our heads against the wall, sending letters to Yellow Pages, the State Attorney General's office and threatening letters from our attorney regarding competitors having line art drawing of a Moore Roll A Jet in their ads when they didn't have one. Nobody cared enough to act.

That really sucks Ken. But if you happen to produce a claim such as removing 99% of dust, allergens, ect, you could get your pants sued off.
