you'll earn more per piece if you price in person, at least from my experience. i usually sell furniture cleaning while i'm their to clean their carpets. Don't forget the protector, 1/2 the cost of cleaning and nearly 100% WILL BUY. we almost always run 2 tools, it's already set up in a large milk container. takes less then 2 minutes to get going. sprayers are already on truck ready to go. efficiency is the name of the game .

Just like anything, the more you do, the more efficient you get doing it, the easier it becomes, and you make more profit per hour.

I preferred to clean furniture to carpets, because, for me, it was less work than carpets, and I charged enough to make a good profit doing it, and the bottom line for any business is to make a profit.

And when you become an expert, a specialist doing it, you get to charge more than a generalist who does a lot of things.

There are certain tools, certain chemicals, and certain techniques that can make you more efficient, doing anything.

Using a bucket and brush to clean furniture (The way I started back in 1956) is not as efficient as using a portable or Truck Mount, for example.

Or bonnet cleaning certain materials is way faster than a Truck Mount. (Cant use that on all, but some.)

I have seen a lot of returning customers who had atleast went for cheaper options and re-grated that. I will not say all of them are bad but most of them are. The quality of equipment or professionals may become a big setback for your costly household floors or furniture.

For us, I want the price of cleaning a couch to be whatever our min charge(or above) is.

How's it going to work if you have 120$(or whatever) min charge and a couch cost 90 bucks(or whatever)? Well miss I can't come, your below our min... Now your praying she has something else to clean.

We get many calls just for upholstery cleaning. I enjoy doing upholstery and feel we do it much better then most.

Instead of the horsehair brush we use a spinney(?) thing like a car buffer with a bonnet, works awesome and foams up the pre spray really nice. Very impressive to clients, also.

Your competitor's advertised prices are possibly not real.

Lots of bait & switchers around here.

I don't think I'll ever like cleaning furniture at any price. But I do it because it comes with the trritory. I do make decent money on it I just don't like to.

Bull, you cannot properly clean any 6ft sofa in 20 min.
May as well run a damp rag over it for all you've done.
If you're moving the tool that fast it can't do what it was designed to do.

I watched a guy try to show me how to clean fast years ago. We worked for a dept store company and he lost me when he said he'd never do it that way if it were his customer.

Charge for upholstery, don't just give it away. Take some good classes, Jim Pemberton or Steve Marsh have excellent classes. Most cleaners don't clean uph because it ain't carpet and you can f'it up. A good class takes the fear away. If you have multiple pieces or a sectional it adds up and it can take some time, but do it right and the client will be really happy. You're a professional, not a hack.

sure Ron, anything you say...

maybe i should say a light/minimal soiled piece that has straight back, no folds, no skirt and attacked seats can EASILY be cleaned RIGHT in 20 minutes .

'course, "I" wouldn't spend FORTY minutes vaccing the thing before i put the upl tool on it and OVERKILLING EVERY SINGLE step of the process for a minimum/light soil sofa

I'm just crAzy that way....

I agree Larry- I have cleaned my ex's 14 ft sectional a couple times and I don't think it took more than 35-40 min.

I would be willing to do upholstery work much cheaper than carpet simply to get to the carpet, tile, rugs, and hardwood.

And if I am already there I will gladly discount the upholstery cleaning and knock it out while my help does the carpet. If you price it right, you will sell it on EVERY JOB and not just some jobs.

I am always totally impressed with Ken's ability to "clean".
Only way you do that 14 sectional in 35 minutes, Ken, is via: "Sent from your DROIDX using Tapatalk."

Unless, of course, you're really not that fond of your ex. Which may explain the 35 minutes :p

I guess some of us may have a different definition of clean.

And no Larry, I don't Wernerize sofas. If it's that fast, it ain't clean. And I clean a lot of sofas.
"Maybe you meant to say: "A new piece, no soil, straight back, no folds, no skirt, no dirt, no owner in the house while cleaning, delivered new, still covered with plastic from the show room." :p

P.S. What's " Attacked seats"?
Is that part of the secret Speedy Gonzalez cleaning technique? !gotcha!

Hopefully Ken can clue us in.

My upholstery prices are medium..like 125 for sofa..165 for sectional etc..similar to Stanley Steamer.. I use it as a tool to get in to the house because I know that the sofa is sitting on top of a RUG !!! $$$$$.. and that's where I get my loot..but even if not, I can clean a standard 3 cushion sofa from arrival to leave in about an hour..125.00. not bad.
