So did you see that the Ro and Ro/Di water is acidic??

Thats one of the reasons it damages metal pipes. It eats away at them and pulls mineral from the pipes.

Water quality will vary all over the country.

I have checked my after DI at 7 ph.
I have run RO/DI for over 9 years now exclusively.
I ran a BlueLine thermalwave for 2700 hours NO Problems.
In fact pulled apart my Cat pump, after 500 hours, and looked brand new internally.

We are using 'window cleaning' grade DI, not nuclear grade.

Soft does not have 'all the mineral removed'... Where did you get that info?
I did not state that it was completely mineral free, however i just had my soft water lab tested, and they system im using creates perfectly soft water.

Let me throw a wrench in there.

Your starting ph of your water is higher than most areas, and the ro/di will drop the ph some but not completely, mine was a drop in ph of around 1.
I'm using mixed bed resin used for window cleaning, as that's why i generate it.

your comment on you using ro/di for your tm and how you havent had problems helps us, so thank you for your input.

I say thanks because there is no long term tests that i know of for how ro/di water reacts in a carpet cleaning machine. So your info is of great help.

Cobb also has some machines that are outfitted with ro water systems.

Let me get this straight... you are stating, DI will drop the ph by 1 ?
I said I was using RO before DI...
If you watch the video, the Ro water is lower in ph than the soft water, tap water, and well water, yes it will drop the ph some because it is taking minerals out that up the ph

Distilled or deionized water is commonly used to top up lead-acid batteries used in cars and trucks and for other applications. The presence of foreign ions commonly found in tap water will drastically shorten the lifespan of a lead-acid battery.

Distilled or deionized water is preferable to tap water for use in automotive cooling systems.

Using deionised or distilled water in appliances which evaporate water, such as steam irons and humidifiers, can reduce the build-up of mineral scale, which shortens appliance life. Some appliance manufacturers say that deionised water is no longer necessary.[12][13]

Purified water is used in freshwater and marine aquariums. Since it does not contain impurities such as copper and chlorine, it helps to keep fish free from diseases, and avoids the build-up of algae on aquarium plants due to its lack of phosphate and silicate. Deionized water should be re-mineralized before use in aquaria, since it lacks many macro- and micro-nutrients needed by plants and fish.

Water (sometimes mixed with methanol) has been used to extend the performance of aircraft engines. In piston engines it acts to delay the onset of engine knocking. In turbine engines it allows more fuel flow for a given turbine temperature limit, and increases mass flow. As an example, it was used on early Boeing 707 models.[14] Advanced materials and engineering have since rendered such systems obsolete for new designs, however spray-cooling of incoming air-charge is still used to a limited extent with off-road turbo-charged engines (road-race track cars).

Deionized water is very often used as an "ingredient" in many cosmetics and pharmaceuticals where it is sometimes referred to as "aqua" on product ingredient labels; see International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients.

Because of its high relative dielectric constant (~80), deionized water is also used (for short durations, when the resistive losses are acceptable) as a high voltage dielectric in many pulsed power applications, such as the Sandia National Laboratories Z Machine.

Distilled water can be used in PC watercooling systems and Laser Marking Systems. The lack of impurity in the water means that the system stays clean and prevents a buildup of bacteria and algae. Also, the low conductance reduces risk of electrical damage in the event of a leak.

When used as a rinse after washing cars, windows, and similar applications, purified water dries without leaving spots caused by dissolved solutes.

Deionized water is used in water-fog fire-extinguishing systems used in sensitive environments, such as where high-voltage electrical and sensitive electronic equipment is used. The 'sprinkler' nozzles use much finer spray jets than other systems, and operate at up 35 MPa (350 bar; 5,000 psi) of pressure. The extremely fine mist produced takes the heat out of a fire rapidly, and the fine droplets of water are nonconducting (when deionized) and are less likely to Read this line----> damage sensitive equipment. , thus re-ionizing thDeionized water, however, is inherently acidic and contaminants (such as copper, dust, stainless and carbon steel, and many other common materials) rapidly supply ions, thus re-ionizing the water.. It is not generally considered acceptable to spray water on electrical circuits that are powered, and it is generally considered undesirable to use water in electrical contexts.[15][16][17][18]

Distilled or purified water is used in humidors to prevent cigars from collecting bacteria, mold, and contaminants, as well as to prevent residue from forming on the humidifier material.

Window cleaners using water-fed pole systems also use purified water because it enables the windows to dry by themselves leaving no stains or smears. The use of purified water from water-fed poles also prevents the need for using ladders and therefore ensure compliance with Work at Height Legislation in the UK.

i wanted to find a source that collaborates our findings so show everyone.

I would think that it would take alot of years of water flow of ro/di to cause any significant damage to a cleaning machine.

RO/DI used for fish tanks... fish from the ocean, as well as fish from the rivers...

Lance hooked me up with my current water filtration system now. I filter the carbon, chlorine and fine sediment and then run soft water. When I want to go home after a long day of work my tank refills fast enough that I don't go insane. I"ve been running less acid rinse and les chemical and have checked at least a couple dozen different types of carpet when cleaning and everything is great with neutrality. Thanks Lance.

So, let's look at another avenue...

RO/DI used for fish tanks... fish from the ocean, as well as fish from the rivers...
what about it? My mother would be a perfect person to talk about when it comes to water and fish, she raised tropical fish for years.

SO in aquariums - ro/di water is used to reduce the amount of heavy metals, toxins, nitrates, etc, but also allows you to quickly adjust ph of the water, as calcium and magnesium that is found if well water will disrupt the ph levels almost any time you add water.

I have and build hydroponic systems, and deal with this daily.

Also the general TDS around here is about 500-700... I have measured as high as 1,350

I think maybe you should be talking about why guys get varied results around the US using a water softener alone...

I personally will never run city or softened water, without RO/DI ...

At 2:12 you said "the minerals are removed, and replaced with sodium" or am I missing something here?

i dont doubt your results of how hard your water is. but a digital tester like i have is much more accurate then the pool tester your using. the measurement error on my testers are +/- .1

the Di water on your scale is lower than your lowest standard.
you need to invest in a meter that has better resolution.

whats your tds after your Ro membrane?
Are you running an auto balancing system?
Are you having to back flush the system often?
Are you running an auto flushing system?
Are you pressure feeding the ro system?
how big of a di tank are you running?
how often are you having to change your resin?
Do you generate on the job or at your home/ shop?
whats the tds before your ro and after the ro?
