I think wearing them during cleaning sets you apart from other cleaners. I believe men don't care if you are wearing them or not, but I'm sure women notice your dirty shoes on their carpet while your cleaning. If not for the cleanliness, the impression.

i've only had 1 service provider ever wear booties. the rest i've been annoyed by, granted they weren't CC'ers. funny thing is, the ones that have taken their shoes off, their socks were brown or gray (supposed to be white) and i wished they'd left their shoes on anyways. so i guess i wear them because that's what i would like to see techs do in my house.

Kellie, every trip to the truck i take them off and put back on when i am on the porch / in the house.

Here's a great idea...don't wear dirty shoes! Coming into a customers home, we should all have nice clean looking shoes.

We buy tons of them. But use them for many other reasons than carpet cleaning. We even buy the expense ones with a rubber sole in them for sewage work. It prevents "crap" (pun intended) from getting on our shoes.

And ya, it's part for show (customers comment on them all the time) and part for function. They come off easy and go on easy and are professional. And I use a walk off mat as well.
Great for tile and stone work. Helpful when it's raining outside.
PS if the house is filthy they stay in the van.

It's also a workmens comp issue. You don't want foot injuries because you weren't wearing shoes or foot infections. It becomes a judgement thing. If it's a wet, rainy day, I may wear booties every time I return from the truck to avoid leaving muddy footprints.

Speaking of which, we do have a mixed Asian culture here... I wear my shoes loose so I can slip them on and off with no hands... I do wear booties if there's fur or crap all over the place and don't want my socks to get dirty... It's a sign of disrespect if you leave your shoes on in their house...

I remember a long time ago, my pops made a little girl cry because his feet were soo stink... It was hilarious, pops wouldn't believe me when I'd tell him... Then he'd get pissed off when I'd tell the story to others... The problem was he couldn't find booties in his size 15...

Annie sounds like the proverbial customer from Hell. They charged me more where my little stand is but didn't move it? What, maybe 4 sqft? Even if you charged .50 psqft. that would be all of $2.00 Nice that she moved all her stuff, and I do let my customers know that I appreciate that but if I had to move it, you know I would charge more for the extra time. I will remove my shoes if I am doing an estimate but I'll be damned if I am going cleaning her carpets in my wet socks. I will wear booties when I groom the carpet or apply protector. Then she says that the carpet and grout looked great. So the guys did a great job. This business of going on line to complain about nothing is getting out of hand. She deserves to learn the hard way what bad carpet cleaning is all about. Hopefully, next time, she gets a discount coupon bait and switch guy that leaves her carpet wet and soggy at an inflated price, then she will remember the great job she got from Family Man Carpet Cleaning.

Well... The reason I wear shoes is that we frequently find needles or pins in carpets. Yes, there are times when removing shoes is a sign of respect, and I will do it on the bid. However, a kindly and direct explanation of what comes next is also respectful, informing the customer and helping them see how what you do is for their benefit. Is that not what service is all about?

Generally only Indian and Asian homes that ask specifically for them. As a general rule we do wear then during initial walk through. No way I'm taking my shoes off to walk through homes where Fido has done his business all over the place.

I personally clean with them on but usually won't put them on until after I'm fully set up to clean. We also use Protect runners as well and those are the first thing to get placed on a job.

We rarely get asked about shoe covers, and I service a Zrez saturated market. We have on occasion and every truck has two pairs of the more permanent kind. We also carry pairs to give out for the post cleaning inspection. We also keep our shoes clean. If for some reason your shoes get dirty, its time to slip on covers. Its rare though.

With that said, our shoes would never track in or leave a mark because we bring everything to the door that is needed. We lay down drop cloths and walk on them of we have to cross anything we are not cleaning. We take such great care in the home, that typically it would divert any attention away from our feet because for many customers its the first time they have ever seen a cornerguard.

Even with clean shoes, hot days here walking from asphalt into a home tracks right away into concrete. I couldn't imagine not putting some thing on to cover those up.

The review Mike posted is one of many I've seen, apart of why I asked this question. When people run ads on FB, I see comments ALL the time asking where the techs booties are or why are they walking on the carpet without shoe protection.

the secret to being successful in this and most businesses is make them your friend. All the other stuff we do is just for show. Wear or don't wear booties won't matter one bit if they like you. You certainly need to be conscious of not making a mess in their homes but they will forgive a friend. If they don't like you they might write a bad review.

I've been in and out of many thousands of homes and not once have I been asked why I wasn't wearing shoe covers.

I do wear them in an estimate, or slip off my shoes....always.

I also always wear them in on my final trip to groom the carpet and collect payment

Gene is on the money in saying that we need to be their friend. I go out of my way to protect the customers home and show them respect but wearing them DURING the cleaning process seems pretty silly.

Especially when you need to kick some chemistry into a paint spot, etc.
