I wonder what would happen if you were to stretch a wet carpet .. will it become too tight as it contracts during the drying process?

In the 1970's several local competitors folded up after shrinking wool carpets with jute backs. It would pull the tackstrip off the floor.

It turns out the fix was to dampen the carpet enough to allow it to be stretched back, and SECURELY re attached.

You're overthinking it. A wet carpet will respond the same as a dry carpet, only you'll have wet knees! Transition strips are extremely easy, and carpet stretching and repair can be one of your most profitable add ons.

Stretch first, then clean. I've been doing that for the last 25 years!

Just don't cut yourself with the carpet knife!

Do not stretch wet carpet. It will shrink as it dries, and it will be much harder to stretch.

Plastic, action back backings don't shrink.

Jute shrinks.

Never try to repair freshly cleaned carpet. If its the usual tufted Polypropolene backing and still damp, the glue will be weak when its wet. Best process is to repair and stretch then clean. If you stretch it right, you shouldn't have to worry about future wrinkles. And in the case it does wrinkly after being stretched correctly, then the carpet is shot and time to replace.

Ill remember that sweendogg. Furniture marks are a big issue for me. The complexes who want it cleaned first have the most problems with them. Ive been telling them the stretching helps and probably better pad.

You still have grass? All my Mexican neighbors have dirt in their yards from the kids playing soccer and family BBQ's all summer.

I maintain 6-8 acres and once or twice a summer clip the rest so it doesn't get out of hand. I like it under 4-inches in the pasture. Much more than that you get mice and rats and then snakes to eat them. If its cut down then the hawks see the mice and rats and they keep it pretty clear.

They are all over in the deep grass. It's not unusual to see a big hawk fly by with one in its mouth. They also move very fast away from the mower.

Good thing too. I hate pulling them out when the get wound up and chopped in the blades. The drag mower would catch them occasionally.
