Especially of the portable variety..

What is too deep?

And while I have your attention, what is the best color for the floor ?

Im going to say 6 inches and white rules this industry...

Rugs were a small part of my business, so I won't claim to have the final word on this, but I feel 3" - 4" is plenty deep. You only need to cover a rug with water. Once the water is above the thickness of the rug, you don't need more water. Many top cleaners clean on a wash floor with just a slight slope to a drain and no sides at all.

I agree white is a good color. Never felt that it mattered a lot what color the floor was. I used blue because blue tarp was readily available.

So what he's saying is, don't be so dang sloppy and whatevers waterproof will work.

I remember reading something about people using vac hose, makes sense and why add more crap to the pile.

IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL COME.............

If you use a rug squeegee 6" isn't deep enough water will slop over the sides 12-18" is better

what is the best color for the floor ?

Another question. What are the common rug dimensions? 5'X8'? 6'X10'?

Having used both Sloped floor and wash pit, slopped is more effective for production, inflatable/portable 12" plus. Also if you're just dragging your hoses into the wash pit
call it a garage floor and just spit and suck it out. You don't need the side walls. I like concrete grey with good lighting.

What exactly do you do with a "slopped" floor?

If you are referring to a floor that has a slant or slope, then the theory of having this type of floor is for the water, chemistry and soil to cascade off and away from the rug.

At Ellen's shop in Dallas she has three "soaking pits" that are just a few inches deep and one large plain colored concrete sloped floor.

One hell of an operation.

Watching Ellen at work was proof you don't need to be a fag to kick ass in the rug game

Seriously, Ellen is one of us! She's also one of my favorite people in the biz I've known her for a long time truly a class act!

she thinks the world of you too Randy.

I've recently become aware of just how much of the rug fag world watches this place.

Dusty and Barry really blew it with this latest stunt.

The shill posting not sure what to say? it's obviously an important enough forum to post on.

I'll put my big boy pants on, I don't mind either posting here more to the point if they want to post here I promise I won’t engage in any badgering of
Barry, dusty or dust’s equipment or any past issues provided they will do the same with me and others.

lets just talk rugs and rug cleaning!

I'd like to hear more from folks in the Association of Rug Care Specialist post here. There's a wealth of experience in that group. Many have beautiful facilities. Maybe attract them by exchanging a banner (for a limited time) in exchange for their board plugging Mikeysboard to their members as the go to place for networking.
I wish we'd hear more from Aaron and Ellen. Seems to me it would be a win win.

They are all welcome.
Though with one of the 'bongos' mentioned above (no need to be too specific) since his posts are somewhat sickening, I'd very much like a throw up bucket to be supplied courtesy of the board.

Is that asking too much, Mike?
