what's your definition of traffic ln cleaning?

a post make me wonder what some's definition of traffic ln cleaning is

I surmised that some see it as literally cleaning only traffic lns and not toughing along walls/open perimeters.

To us, it's cleaning "all" exposed carpet and no furniture moving

Same here, larry.....all exposed carpet, some moving of small items, behind doors, along walls that are exposed. Wand under beds as far as the wand reaches. What ever makes the carpet look good.

A traffic lane is a traffic lane. Point A to Point B.
An open area is all exposed area.

It really doesn't matter as long as you and the customer are on the same page as to WHAT they want done.

What aggravates me is when you make an agreement with a customer to do traffic lanes on the phone and when you do arrive to do the job they have stacked all the furniture in the center of the room.

I think some of them figure that they can outsmart us and force us to clean the exposed area and then have to move the furniture away to clean the traffic lanes. I have had this happen a couple of times and bit my tongue and did it anyway. If it happened now I would renegotiate and if they didn't agree to my quote I wouldn't proceed.

If I find a room cleared of furniture that was quoted traffic lane only it's a bonus for me because its easier to clean.

Traffic lanes or open areas are the same for me. I group in empty with them as well. All the same price.

Traffic lane, open area or the empty room is all the same to me. We measure wall to wall, an empty room takes me just as long as edging up to furniture. I will tell the customer that the more furniture they move the more carpet I can clean and no added fee.

As for furniture moving we move the first 2 pieces for free and 5.00 per item after that. We want to H/O to be ready for us to CLEAN carpet not move furniture. Now if a customer wants to pay us 5.00 per item we will do so with a smile on our faces.

P.S. do we charge for every SF in a room......... Never we always want to be under by 5-10% so we can never be accused of over billing.

I hate when people move the furniture out to say "I want this moved" and they probably think they helped you. I had one last week that I showed up and she had two giant sectionals I asked "do you want those moved?" "I will move them." she said.

What she did was took all 9 parts and scatterd them around the room. Wow, thanks alot!

If I have to move a single piece of furniture, it's full price. If I don't have to touch a single piece its 20 percent off. I don't care if the room's empty or full of furniture - as long as I don't have to touch it they get the discount.

I don't mind furniture moving. The only thing that bothers me is that people think it should be free. Or they ask if they can move the furniture, and then if you say yes, they leave it all, and move it one piece at a time while you wait for them.

I asked my mechanic if he would give me a discount if I turned his wrenches for him after he put them on the bolts and he told me to get out of his shop.

If I charged a buck a square foot, I would be able to move furniture wall to wall, use air scrubbers, clean the baseboards, do all specialty spotting, etc. etc. etc. I could have 1 or 2 helpers full time. People don't want to pay it, so they need to skip furniture moving....

same here to, any carpet I see without moving furn.
However, I when I'm quoting, I will tell my client that certain pieces need to be moved, ie a high legged chair sitting more in the middle, or a loveseat in the middle of the area, otherwise if they do move it there will be a huge square!

Whatever I need to do to make the best job for "them".

Traffic area means where your feet hit the carpets and walk most of the time the other parts of the carpet is dust and not foot soil, but each home owner has their own ideas. jack z.

Guy asked if Id discount the steps since it was just a 2 ft wide strip up .. I said no .. all of the dirt and traffic are in the 2 foot wide path just the same as if it were 3 foot wide and it takes more time not to splash the edges with water and then to wipe down the mist on both sides of the 2 foot wide strip of carpet .. probably should cost more ..

We should all change the verbage to "open area cleaning".
The customer gets a better idea because "traffic lane cleaning" sounds just like cleaning the walk path.
