This one takes a while so bear with me.

Cleaned a motor home and a house for a client a couple of weeks ago. Black Death struck in the living room. I remember guys talking about it ..."stick the solution line in the vac hose"...nope, I ran to the truck to shut the pump off. When I come back inside I am surprised to find the black splatters on a leather sofa, end table, table lamp and wall. There are also 2 puddles where the solution line leaked on the carpet.

I extracted as much as I could, ran a new solution line and got the black residue that was in one of the puddles cleaned up. The rest of the mess cleaned up well except for a lamp shade. The shade had a coating that reminded me of paper mache, it basically started to disolve as soon as it was damp wiped.

The client was away at this time so she missed all the excitement!

When I wrapped up I called her on her cell and explained what had happened, I took $50 dollars off the invoice to compensate for the damaged lampshade. She was cool with that. Several days later she calls to say there are a couple of lighter spots in her carpet. The light spots appeared where the solution line overwet the carpet.

When I arrived to re clean the custy asked me "Jim, worst case scenario what happens?" I told her I would replace the carpet. She also pointed out that they have a new tv, she said the screen on the old one went all green and red the day following the carpet cleaning. I asked her if she thought the tv not working was related to the black death incident. She was not sure but was going to get someone to have a look at the non functional tv.

As soon as the prespray hit the carpet the shading blended in with the non affected area, but when the carpet dried the color loss was apparent again

We discussed options and I suggested getting a carpet dyer in to fix the problem. She said not to bother and she is ok letting the whole thing go with no compensation. I told her that I was not comfortable with that and would get back to her.

The original invoice was 200 for the motorhome and 400 for the house cleaning. I was thinking of sending her the 400 back for compensation.

What would you do????

If it had happen to you what would you be happy with?

I think had it happened any where but the center of an open space I'd take the money you gave me with a grin on my face.

BUT this is right out where everyone will see it. Can it be sectioned out and swapped from another less visible area?

I feel sick just looking at the close proximity to the TV to the blow out area. Do you think it could have been sprayed?

Man I hate Bad-Day hose.

Maybe we should all file a class action lawsuit against Goodyear, I have several claims I could include!

Give her the money back.

As for the goodyear. Replace your hose once a year or every 600 hours and you won't have that problem. As to what Richard said ask Goodyear and they will say replace it every 150-200 hours. Hose is cheap compared to a burn to you or a customer's kid or in this case the damage in the house.

I'm not getting the color loss. I've seen Cyclone and other spotters do this to similar carpet, but disagree that it would have been affected by water alone. Maybe you can mist a little blue dye on the spots?

If it were me, I'd hire someone to come out and diagnose her TV problem. TV+Carpet+Lamp Shade=Insurance Claim.

If she is satisfied w/how you resolved the problem, she's satisfied, but do give her the money back, still good practice, also call your Ins. agent just to have the "incident" document in file, just in case.

that's about all the longer you can trust the CRAP!

It's dangerous JUNK

do you stock Parflex, John?
NO instant, potentially catastrophic failures like the Ineptune JUNK

...........................................................................

Jim, man, that's rough one, Bro.
It's an AWFUL feeling

What would "I" do?
put my tail between my legs, refund her money , and move on a little wiser/more knowledgeable as a result of the unfortunate event

AND THEN...I'd go buy some Parker parflex

forgive me for asking this, but is it "possible" that the lighter areas are just a "very" clean spots?
What juice are you using thru the TM?

is that a wool berber or synthetic?

Someone explain how a solution line leak causes color loss. That doesnt add up to me.

No clue as to how that happened either. There were 2 areas affected, 1 of which was treated with a high alkaline spotter (to get the black goop out), the other spot was not but the color loss was equal in both spots. I thought maybe something in the backing wicked up but after repeated vacuuming and cleaning there is no difference.

The shading is very consistent through the room so I don't think that is the case.
Prespray was Trashed Green with a mild mix of PC Dry Slurry through the wand.

Not sure what the fiber is but this makes me think nylon.

That was My thought especially on that style carpet.
A large amount of hot emulsifier can leave a clean spot that cannot be duplicated by wand cleaning no matter how many times you clean it.
