Vacuum, wipe down with OMS or similar and vacuum off?

and what supplier still sells stuff that works?

once or once a year I find the need to do it

Kleenrite and masterblend both have precharged oms dry cleaning agents still.

We do a few times a month at least based on oms consumed but we clean 10's of thousands of pieces a year.

Re: When was the last time you dry cleaned a piece of uphols

When I first took Murray Kremer's Kleenrite class in 1981 it was a bit more common, I even had their double boiler set up for solvent use. By the late 80's it was starting to be less useful. The solvents available became less effective, and "dry-wet-dry" allowed limited water-based juices to be used more often. Wally Weber really perfected dwd.

To answer your question, I use solvent only um.....never. Last time almost 20 years ago. That was the very rare X code piece that I first vacuum vacuum vacuum (dry clean) and perhaps mist with solvent followed by wiping down with white towel.

Now EVERYTHING can be done with judicious use of water-based products.

A lot of OMS gets used to "stretch" oms-based protectors, in a fashion similar to h2o use to enhance "aquagard".

wow that is a great question!!!!! I have forgot I quit doing it. its been at least 10 years since I have done. honestly I forgot all about doing it back in the day. the reason for that I guess is it never really worked in the first place.

Last time I dry cleaned I used an upholstery dry cleaning machine and exhausted the vacuum fumes outside. "That had to be a quarter century ago. Doesn't clean all that well anyway. Not worth the bother for me. No longer have the equipment either. Of course a spray bottle would work, I guess.

A couple of days ago.

There are a few things we see on a routine basis that would be ruined if you tried cleaning them with water, no matter how judiciously. Those fabrics are typically expensive enough to replace that you're also taking a big financial risk attempting a limited result-limited water cleaning. There's no common sense attached to being an anti-solvent hero when the fabric gets complex.

They are quite uncommon in Kentucky. :p

I clean silk, rayon, and various natural fibers successfully without OMS. Of course you test each piece, even if you've cleaned it before. Vacuum and compressed air are all I use on what I call "dangerous" pieces.

Even solvents can ruin some fabrics or color systems.

I dry clean all the time and find it quite effective on the fabrics I clean. I use Picrin. Dries super fast and saves me time when I use it.

That's a nice mixture of hair shampoo, butyl floor stripper, OMS, and d'limolene. Should clean great!

Re: When was the last time you dry cleaned a piece of uphols

Quite a bit but mostly on fire losses when soot residue is very light and the materials not not soiled to begin with. We will also do some of the drapes that way if they area also lightly soiled. Vacuum and hand dry clean.

Very little of the other upholstery is dry cleaned, maybe one or two pieces a year that are not related to a fire loss.

It does leave the material brighter and smelling clean but appearance improvement is best if it just light soil. Spills and heavier soiling can push the limits of your results when dry cleaning.
