For restoration Servicemaster, Servpro own the most markets. I don't care for yellow or green so I'd really have to learn to get used to them.

Carpet cleaning Zerorez, Stanley Steamer are pretty big brand with some awareness already.

Truth is their real selling points are that coming into the business with little knowledge the franchises provide training, support, marketing.

Once established many franchises begin to question the value of the relationship.

I've sent them business but so far, not even a call to say thanks. Oh, well.

I've often wondered what it might be like to collaborate on a new and better residential franchise.

It would be fun to sit at a table with others and come up with some ideas that could easily translate to many other markets.

Let's list the mandatory equipment on the Butler (see what I did there?).

Vacuum
CRB
Rotary
Zipper
Tile spinner
Hard surface wand
Stair tool
Upholstery tool
Seal a Door

There's far more that would need a specific place in every van but I think that would give a new franchise a REAL leg up over the competition.

When a marketing company convinces a population that they have magic water...they win.

Someone could do better than that, in fact I think the climate is ripe for it.

Perfect sentence. Each has its "niche".
They market effectively in their own way. They each have their specific type of marketing strategy, commercials all over the US (Stanley, Yellow Vans) or back to back Radio Ads (ZeroRez, Ticktack toe board logo is familiar) Billboards (Coit) etc. yet.. One or 2 bad experiences they give to customers (high pricing, iniffecient cleaning, customer service issues) it pushes those people to start asking friends for referrals for future cleanings. I noticed that on the nextdoor app when people ask for cc referrals... People more than not are recommending local o/o or non-franchised companies.

Franchises are probably more awesome to get into if it was something like McDs or Rita's Water Ice. To much cost and time in carpet cleaning to begin with to be paying someone else. The stanleys make more per job because they can, they also spend a lot more on ads, franchise costs, and on.. Worth it?

I am sure some are great. However, their franchise existence by its very nature while helping them in some ways, also enables the smart and dedicated small operator to stand out.

They bring some value and know how and at the same time, most, also bring some of their inherent shortcomings.
In a funny way, we benefit from each other.

PCS is a very high end franchise in my area and they charge big bucks.

SS would be a good choice to learn the business then map out your strategy from their.

For the life of me I've wondered how Stanley stays in business at least the one in my area. The majority of client/customers that have used them, 9 out 10 have said how awful the cleaning was, up sold them through their nose and carpets would dry after about Two days. On the other hand they are good for business.

Long ago I was impressed that SS used #5+ blowers and I had admiration for them.
My son went to work for them in Wisconsin. They teased him that he might be a spy-- he retorted-- My dad operates so much more efficiently then you guys..
I guess they have good equipment but poor operating procedures and training.

A few guys laughed at me, but I've considered ZeroRez. Their marketing is superior to any other franchise listed. Yes, even Stanley Steemer's marketing. I dug into the requirements, and I thought it was affordable until I saw a paragraph that said you had to replace their water system every 3years for $30,000. And the life of the truck mount is set to be at only 5-6years. So it seems like it's a money pit. At least from my angle of thinking (which is very small)

BUT, to fix a rumor that was going around on social media...(where they say lye is used in their process) That's not true. From the reliable source I was told, they said that's very toxic and it is not included in their machine's process.

If SS was more reasonable, it seems like the best franchise to invest in, other than PCS (If you live in a wealthy community).

The worst part is paying 12% of my gross, matters not if I am in the red or black, to the Masters.

I tried Paul Davis Restoration for several years. There were some advantages but for me the disadvantages won out in the end. Still might be a good choice for others if they wanted to include rebuilding / construction as part of the package.

Zerorez has great marketing and a good education and support program for the franchisees.

PCS has a great group of people who care about the franchisee being successful but does not have the market reach of some of the others.

A guy had a few down here, 1 on 2 military installations and 1 at a local convenient eatery... He won best in the state for 15years... His 1 location out did his other 2 military ones bar none..
