I've often wondered what it might be like to collaborate on a new and better residential franchise.

It would be fun to sit at a table with others and come up with some ideas that could easily translate to many other markets.

Let's list the mandatory equipment on the Butler (see what I did there?).

Vacuum
CRB
Rotary
Zipper
Tile spinner
Hard surface wand
Stair tool
Upholstery tool
Seal a Door

There's far more that would need a specific place in every van but I think that would give a new franchise a REAL leg up over the competition.

When a marketing company convinces a population that they have magic water...they win.

Someone could do better than that, in fact I think the climate is ripe for it.
I don't understand your comment on what would give a franchise a REAL leg up over the competition

I was kidding before. If I had ever wanted to be involved with a franchise I would have.
We had 3 vans working in my early days and I didn't enjoy it. Not the Manager type.

One thing about a franchise is if corporate, finds your exceeding sales they'll raise your franchise fees accordingly.

So your always working for someone else.

So Matt!

You have a website?

Who does your seo?

Have you grabbed every free listing?

And fleshed them out!

Do you have a ton of great reviews?

What would a franchise do to make things different? It's all a lot of work no matter how you slice it.

Ps you can use my dog and logo instant cash!

Ps I'm not busting your balls,

It's just I've been doing this for awhile.

And I would be where my cousins are thinking it's the economy it's this it's that.

But I had a crappy website it still needs work, but guys here gave input.

Then years ago Mike said grab your Yelp listing and claim your free five cities.

That and get reviews!

So I started asking for them.

I don't have as many as most but they still come in.

Then I realized I was missing out on Facebook and used some of Wills stuff and spent some money there.

But most of the gold is right at our finger tips here on this board.

We just have to put the work in online to develop it.

My cousins view the internet as a four letter word who needs a website?

Print advertisement is gone,
they don't now how to get new leads.

Tv and radio are for Chavez and Hagopian.

Ps you could always join the multi faith club and solicit every church with 5000 members to.

Seriously what ever you do good luck it's not easy.

I'm up to date online and very active. Angie's list and yelp....not much. It's not needed yet

I'm the leader with reviews compared to the competition

To answer your question on what a franchise would do to make things different: Marketing. The big named ones are all over Tv and radio. That's something I wouldn't have to do, because it's already all over tv.
The second reason is preparing my business to look better in selling it. It seems that a big named franchise would sell better within our market, than a business like mine.

I am right in the middle of two big cities in between several franchises that don't service my area. If I bought into one, built it up to be able to operate without me, 10years later put a for sale sign on it. It's a thought that's worth brainstorming over

Just saying if you have a listing anywhere that's says claim listing?

Claim it, it's free!

I don't know, but I hear Yelp isn't that big here for some guys.

There's one thing to consider.

Do people use iPhones where your at?

If so when you ask Siri for info or search using apple maps.

That's only uses yelps search engine.

Lastly and mean it, I hear you when trying to ad value and get to a place of retirement.

The best thing I did was leave my Dads business and start my own.

I was able to start IRA'a and save after that.

It took awhile, but we incorporated, and recently got a simple Ira for the business.

Incorporation did two things, I pay 15% taxes on most earnings!

And a simple Ira allows for up to $12500 a year that plus my wife's $5500 a year.

I started way late and need a few good runs for the stock market, but slowly but surely we're getting there.

If I had balls I would invest in real estate.

That's the investment that keeps on giving.

There is no value in any cc franchise in my opinion

There is a lot of value in restoration franchise if they have deals tied into preferred vendor programs

Aka Servpro servmast Paul davis etc

It will get you insta revenue which is hard to get otherwise
That is my feeling when it comes to a franchise. It must come with built in revenue, if I have to bust my hump to get all my work then there is no point in a franchise, but if it comes with at least enough work to pay the basics then it might be worth it.

I would go with Stanley in a heart beat. Ask any one on the street name 2 carpet cleaning companies. They will be one of them. Their brand awareness is second to none.

I don't think you would be able to sell a profitable Stanley Steamer or any franchise for much more money that your own --well marketed --well run carpet Brand.---I'm sure there is a Franchise transfer fee with most that is going to bite some of that.

If your business is fully dimensional with a nice rug facility and parking for your vans----sorry no trailers allowed Matt----grin---it would pull more.

With interest rates as low as they are now and Uncle Sam printing money like it was going out of style, my mind would think now is a good time to invest in real estate. My theory is with all the money being printed we are bound to have significant inflation---in everything---(I have been wrong before). Payment locked in low interest rents increase with inflation.

I don't have IRAs or 401ks. Only rental property. My theory was If I could put 20% down and it would make the payment itself---buy it. I've never paid on my properties after the down payment. (I have spend some time working on them) My brother was all about 401k. His value dropped by over 50% in 2008. Took 5+ years to get back to even. My value dropped also but the rents did not go down---they keep going up. Probably time for another round of rent increases now that you mention it.

And the return on a rental are better
