Hoping today we are getting paid. She called yesterday when we were on the way to her home, as she asked us to come over because she would have the money, and said she now didn't have it. Said someone deposited money into the wrong bank account and she won't get it til tomorrow. Least I know she's not moving because I mentioned her land lords name (that I found through Property Assessor Records). She did say, we were threatening her and texted us and asked if we were angry? Crazy Town - just give us our money.

Well were out check fee's, tech cost's, and gas, not to mention 2 other jobs we could have done who paid us full price and ya were upside down to the tune of $150.00 so ya were a little pissed

I had a guy write me a bad check for over 600.00
I called when I received notice and got voicemail. I called at night and was told he wasn't there. I waited patiently and figured I'd give him a bit to straighten it out, but continued calling.
This guy was in the army, so I called his CO and told him who I was and what I was talking about. The CO said "another one?"
I told the CO to inform the gentleman that at 4pm I'd be at the courthouse and the marshals would pick him up, as it is a felony to write a bad check over 500.oo in this state.
The guy came up with the money, the returned check fee and had the audacity to say thaty he'd neeeeeeever call again.

As to the OP. Call the county courthouse.

Right now its not looking so good. She promised to pay over the last 3 days. Finally yesterday was the last day. Monday I'll send a letter in our letter head to her landlord stating something like "Intent to File Lien on Property" and see if that gets some movement out of her.

Maybe we Service industry owners should have a "Yelp" type blog where we post information about dishonest customers who scammed us? We could list the names and address and phone numbers of these POS's with a story about what happened. the site would have to have search abilities based on these criteria. we could use this site as an "insurance policy" against us being ripped off for our hard work. With this information of past "scams" performed by these people we can then decide if we want to service them or at least act in a manner the protects us more. Maybe these people wont be so quick to pull off these scams again if they knew this type of site was available!?

I've recently came across some of these toxic people and have wondered IF they have pulled the same scam on my follow carpet cleaners-- I know at least one has but this customer was fine with us but I'm still thinking of firing this customer because its just too risky having him as a client. My stories are more involved then a bounced check-- but I want to keep this post brief.
I've been is business almost 26 years now and have never had anyone sign a waiver or disclaimer or any paperwork for that matter--- But now that I'm getting bigger I think I've become a target!? so I'm putting together a waiver that my customers will have to sign-- There are dishonest people who think that stealing from small business isn't hurtful-- but we are people too!

I would think the site would have to be somewhat private.?. Maybe this "Yelp" page could be added to MB?
Maybe if customers knew this type of site was out there

While I understand what and why your saying what your saying but no lawyer with a degree that didn't come from a box of cracker jacks would ever let you create or post to something like that. It would be economic suicide not only from lost business but all the lawsuits it would bring you. Nope never going to happen at least I hope no one tries to create one and suckers someone into posting on it.

so then why is YELP allowed to exist?
I hear there is even an app/ website that lets girls complain about their ex boyfriends.

I've thought about this type of site idea to. lol Highly unlikely this will ever come about as businesses would be crushed. What if you could post anonymously about the customer? :) Just a day dream.

btw.. still no money from this lady. Filed everything, now we will just wait. She sent us a text saying, "I will send you a letter when I'm ready to pay." I'm excited for the phone call from her landlord when she receives our intent to file lien notice. Maybe she will pay us with some of her deposit? :)

Check out thedirty.com ... That's legal trash talk and they don't remove peoples pictures. Knew a girl that was posted on the site, talked bad about, and emailed the site to have her picture and name removed. They told her no. Google'd it and its legal for them to do.

Hum-- interesting-- ill check it out. luckily I wont have to post there much... It might take more time then its worth to investigate every booking b4 hand.. Just need to "Vent" sometimes! BTW-- I have no problem paying for our mistakes or damages-- t's just the Scammers that bother me.
A signed waiver should help.

A good friend of mine comforted me with this thought.
"Its just a numbers game--As you get bigger you are more likely to run into toxic people-- consider it a part of doing business and move on."

I don't want to repeat the mistake for which Mikey called me out on this past summer on MB with regards to some yelp reviews. I learned from that mistake and should be careful not to repeat it.-- TY Mikey

It helps to believe in Karma and that toxic people will "reap what they sow".

By accepting checks we run the risk that they might bounce, but at least they is no Fee.

I've recently learned that Credit cards can also "bounce" days after you cleaned a carpet and got payment-- More on that story in a different post titled: "Why I might be leaving Square for PayPal Here"

So, how are you able to file a lien on the landlords property?
The landlord did not hire you.

Sometimes all you need is a good "poker face" I just fill out the lien paperwork but don't file it yet-- I show a copy of the lien to the deadbeat and tell them Ill send a copy to the landlord and city If I don't get paid now.

deadbeats generally don't want to risk losing their housing. Luckily I haven't had to resort to this in a very long time.

Exactly. No lien will be filed of course. Think of it as a letter from a collection agency saying they are hiring a law firm to sue you I guess.

We could start a "Mikeys List". We report customers that shaft contractors onto a blacklist. This way a contractor has a choice whether to work for or not. And once the screwing customer becomes aware of this blacklist, they may decide to pay up rather than chance not being able to purchase services from other contractors due to this list. Not to mention the embarrassment of being on the list.

Theres a pizza joint that has a wall of shame with a bad check writers check on the wall (behind plexiglass) for all to see. Makes you think 2wice about screwing people.

We have a friend how happens to be a PA Constipal, if we get a bad check or someone does not pay he will go to their home or business and inform them that he will be escorting them to the district justices office. He then adds his fee to their bill and collects every time, brings us our money in cash, case closed:icon_cool:. It is great to have these kind of friends, takes all the drama out of it!

This is an old thread, but I figured I'd update on what happened today.

The lady I spoke about who bounced this check and never paid in the beginning of this thread, called today, left a message about scheduling, she seen one of our trucks cleaning by her house and was interested. She also said I needed to update my website, there was to much text, along with other criticisms. (All of this on a voicemail). I called back thinking this was a new PIA customer, but when she booked and gave me her name it sounded familiar.

I looked up her name and phone number and sure enough it was her. The bounced check lady. As soon as I said, "you never paid us for your last cleaning" she said, "oh, did you try to contact me?" She knows we contacted her, she even told us to stop by and pick up cash instead, but then she moved and was never to be heard from. After I told her this, she said oh sorry, bye. Hung up. Funny thing is she gave me her new address before I mentioned the bounced check. Should I send the past way overdue bill there? :dejection:

Edited... I forgot to include after she hung up she sent us a text message saying we did a superb job on her past house, but she didn't pay because we were assholes that harassed her constantly for the money and she wouldn't even pay us in her second life. Whatever that means. She also sent another text saying, "go f yourself sobs."
