Me?

I’m certainly not new, have been cleaning for years, but VLM, and we do well.

I just need a TM for basement and an occasional flush after scrubbing with VLM. I don’t want to spend a lot because we won’t use the machine a lot.

Just saying I’m not new to this.

There’s now another option:

Local competitor, good dude, is getting out of carpet, so he’s selling his 05 E-350 with 115k miles align with his 06 Hydrmaster 450D that has 1200 hours. Was just serviced at Interlink in Columbus.

After a wrap, it’s all ready to go.

I can probably get him to around 9k... better way to go?

I wouldn't want a stinky chat 'n rattle diesel...truck or TM
and fuel is a buck-o-gallon more

I don't know if the Nick-o-Matic TM has improved from the ole dayz or not.
I suspect it's had to or Cobblet and Steam Brite wouldn't continue to private label them

for your intended purpose (limited use) the Nick-o-matic AND trailer set up seems like a better deal .
No addition insurance to pay on a van that sits most of the time.
and the trailer will have more room for hauling drying equipment

a 36 blower wound tight at 3400 rpm @15 hg will pull water plenty fine.
The only thing I'd be concerned about has been mentioned..
..can the unit be run dry for hours without damage to HX'er or pump.
a pump on/off clutch would be essential
and perhaps an exhaust diverter for HX'er
(but don't know if it hurts them to get "that" hot without water)

Correction... it's not the diesel, it's the regular gas engine... Same with the van. Change your opinion at all? I can probably get the van and TM for 8-9k.

I’m trying to find out if that EZ machine has the ability to turn off the pump, but info is difficult to find.

Thanks

not unless you do a lot of water damage .
Or intend to start cleaning carpets better as your primary biz model

ohhhh... I new it was coming...

Fair enough.
Better is very subjective, especially to the people whose opinions matter... the ones paying us...

Those people?
They love our way and often comment on the hose-hacks. We are fortunate almost nobody around here does HWE properly, or else we'd be nowhere near as popular.

That said, I'd like to have a decent TM around.

don't take it personal, Chris
we're mostly a veteran journeymen lot here .
Most of us are familiar with and regularly use VLM methods too
albeit, not generally in residential ..too many kids, pets and upl
(VLM doesn't clean upl worth a chit)

Yep own two Sprayborg Orbots and a Vibe, a long with 8 Cimex's.

Once you see how much easier HWE is with your TM, you'll reach for it first on all the dirty jobs...then in a year or two all the others. You'll still use the VLM on special need projects but a transition will take place as you have options and are not locked into a system.

Not at all... I enjoy the banter... I rarely take anything personally. I was just swinging back.

But... if you were me and thinking about adding a HWE truck and wanted to start cheap to see if it fits our model, would you go with an almost new EZ (2036) in a trailer or an old Hydramaster (2545) with relatively low hours that's been maintained in a van ready to roll?

I'm open-minded enough to accept that possibility.

My thing is our process is what differentiates us. We literally have people call asking if we do that whole hose thing.

But... I'm willing to change, I just want to start cheap instead of spending 20k-30k on something we may rarely use.

I would go with the ez. Less complicated and easier to work on. Just remember for water damage, hook up as though you're cleaning carpets and let the pressure hose run wide open. Turn the Chem feed off or pull the feed hose out.

I don't really understand what you mean by leaving the pressure hose run wide open... Don't I really want the pump to not run at all?

There are certain times when VLM will be too time consuming and the carpet needs to be steam cleaned to .......remove all of that...............scampoo..................residue

What he means by that pump is that if it doesn't have a clutch to shut it off you will have to have it on to bleed off that pressure so it doesn't over heat the machine.

That's not really practical in cold climates. You're there to clean up water damage not create an ice slick. Plus hooking up to a water spigot in the winter can be a nightmare.

Again, I see where your coming from. I’m in a similar situation to you, I pull a trailer with a truckmount in it. No one can tell you exactly what’s best for you. You have to decide. I’m with all here about the heat exchanger, and clutch pump. You could always put a porty in the trailer just for basements🤷🏼‍♂️

Thanks but I think I'm ready to try a TM just to see what's what.

I just need to go slow and figure out the best starting route. We use small vans since we are VLM, but I do have a truck to tow the trailer that comes with the EZ.

The Hydramaster has a 05 van with 115kish miles.

Obviously the EZ is dirt cheap at 5k for all of it and it's practically new.

The HM with van is 9kish. Both old though.

being a drywall hanger now, me personally if limited use, I go trailer and cheapEasezee route

I'm with Chavez though.
I think once you learn how much more efficient and thorough TM is, and see that when "done right" doesn't mean "wet for three days" and all the other horror stories you hear and tell

You'll throw rocks at your bonnets and shake 'n shine machines in residential

BTW, how do you clean corners?
