So after MF and on our long Ride back, my brain had lots of time to think about some things that were talked about in Scottsdale.

Just about a week before we were leaving for Scottsdale I was approached by a company that had seen our carpet cleaning results and I told them that we were not really looking to add another account like this, but the emails honestly wouldn't stop ( Funny when you need work it is like pulling teeth, but when you don't it is like a Vegan with unlimited chips and a tub of POI )

So I agreed to have a sit down with them, while in the meeting one of the girls asked me if I did carpet repairs? I said YES BUT only if the repairs are small enough and can be done at that time, and no extra trips getting materials, I said I am here because of my carpet cleaning skills NOT for repairs, I don't have the room to carry all the tools and extra carpet pieces to be able to rob a closet to do repairs and the put something close back in the closet, I told her that is like a whole other biz and really needs to be treated as such.
She said she was in a bind...so I said I will do what I can, she handed me 5 work orders LOL.

So I was able to fix 2 of the 5 but due to time of the upcoming MF I told her I just can't do the others.

So this brings me back to someone I met at MF MR. Robert Atlas and how he has brought the two together into one company.
The thing I do like about what this new account is offering is that the jobs were all occupied and can be set up on my time, they are not turnovers just work orders to be completed and not in a big rush.

So I have my truck that really just sits I really don't drive it, but I was thinking about this and just thinking maybe of just turning it into a carpet repair rig?? Put a nice snug top shell on it and all the carpet tools, extra carpet pieces would have a home, and when a repair call comes in the truck would be set up to handle the jobs. No forgetting tools because they are in other vehicles. One vehicle for that type of work.

So what do you guys think? Is this vehicle a ok choice? Is this worth going forward with? I have 6 PM accounts and ALL have asked me to do them, but as above I always turn them down.

Please give me your guys professional input thanks.

If you enjoy doing the repairs, go for it. We have a local guy here that does repairs only. Minimum charge is $175.

If you enjoy doing repairs, go for it. We have a local guy here that does carpet repair only. In fact that's the name of his business. His minimum is $175. He gets a lot of referrals from carpet cleaners who don't want to do repairs.

What brings in more profit?
My thought on this Mike is if this is a good idea, than the work or accounts I have now just might make me enough to be able to work on wands, filters, and carpet. Without needing to stress about adding more clients all the time.

We do offer carpet repairs also, but we have a handful of installers to pick from.. The small ones we bang out easily, the full house re-stretches gets the installers..

If there is a metal track separating the closets, you could always talk them into sheet vinyl for the closet.. It doesn't seem like you guys have "pita high clientele" that'd b!tch about replacing the closet carpet..

We have our contractors flooring license, accounts at different distributors... I just hate pulling glue-down carpet....

Dude, You can't even answer a text message, now you want to offer a third tier to your business? Nothing wrong with diversity, but there is also nothing wrong with focus. Just my opinion. Don't stretch yourself too thin. If you can make it work, I'll throw you my little repair jobs.

I'll preface by saying I'd rather have an ear ache that do repairs or installs
(never did 'em to speak of, never wanted 'em, never will)

but some questions I'd ask;

will they pay a reasonable $90-$120 minimum pr jobsmall?
How wide 'n far is the service area?
Will it be 2-3 jobs a month in different parts of the county(s)?
or can I expect a dedicated truck can schedule a days work in same part of county/city?

one question you should ask yourself if you intend to farm this field
what happens when/if you offer the service to those "6 PM accounts asking" and they accept ??
You gonna drive two trucks there when empties need cleaned and repaired?
(all your carpet repair tools in a dedicated truck makes two trucks to the same job necessary)

It's not a fair trade off for knee surgery.
The serious stuff can be hard work. If you feel there is a market and want to pursue it, hire a guy just for it. Save yourself for cleaning.

I think you have your answer, Tom. If you have the resources already to do this and really is no or minimal investment, then why not? It can help lock you in to some of these accounts because you will be full service for them.

The worst that can happen is you figure out it doesn’t work out as you hoped and you drop the service.. Your not taking a huge risk.

The best that could happen....you can follow your dream of working on wands, filters, and carpet.

And I’m sure Robert would give you help and advice. He’s a super smart dude. Someone I hope to learn from. He won’t steer you wrong.

You got this! Best of luck.

I don't want more of it Damon, only to the companies I work for now. I do have a guy that will do full re-stretches. Im just talking about smaller repairs but still some that would need the power stretcher. I don't have room to carry all the equipment in my van, nor do I want to.
The newest PM company offered it to me like this You can charge us 150.00 minimum service for small repairs plus materials, that is what we are paying now but we don't really care for the guy doing it,his carpet cleaning sucks too.
So I'm just just tossing it around in my head, and thought I would ask to see if any of you do it also.

And no Damon when I am working I don't stop to text.....if I did I wouldn't get anything done lol

I also have been getting more lino and LVP cleaning too. When Mikey started doing it for his base account I went in and offered it to the companies I work for....the funny thing is MOST of the cleaning ladies were MORE than happy to let me do it, so as of now two of my accounts I have just let me do all the floors and carpet.

Sounds like you can make some decent money and solidify some of your accounts at the same time. If you're comfortable doing it, go for it.
