NO this isn't about the Kavanaugh trial.

Customer from 7 days ago called today to complain about a hole in the wall caused by a door handle. She is blaming my tech. He says she is scamming us. She says the landlord is going to charge her for the damage and wants us to pay for it.
Its not a move out- so why would the landlord know about it. Why didnt she call us sooner? My guy thinks its a scam. My guy is at no risk of being punished if he caused the damage, so has no reason to lie.
What do you think i should do?

It's their problem. If they are too stupid to install a door stop, that's gonna happen

Repeat customer?

Go buy a plastic wall guard circle for $3 and stick it on

One other time. Under $400 total for both times.
Im thinking of going there to take photos. If door stop is missing, then it very well could be old damage. The plastic wall guard is what im thinking.

The thing IS-- I wonder if my tech was rushing because he had a hot day later that day.

Not anymore

Lol-- depends on how i handle it. Customer claimed a tech put a hole in wall on a wierd area. I told her I needed to see it for myself because area where the hole was dodnt make any sense. Upon see it i figured the stair wand must have fell down the stairs while he was either yanking the excess hose out to the van. Or it simple fell down the stairs. I fixed the hole and she has been a loyal customer for years.

Here are some photos see sent me.
Looks like the door stop isnt secure. Screenshot_20180927-204623.pngScreenshot_20180927-204641.png

Wow, that is a big ass hole, but hard to tell since there is nothing in the pic for scale. How big is she claiming this hole is. That would be a hard one to miss.

Looks to me like 2 holes- or a "double tap" by knob at different levels, which seems wierd. The door stop definitely is not secures properly.

I agree. Looks like the door would need to come off the hinges to make the different level holes or the doorknob was very loose. I think she's full of it.

OMG!-- this gets really interesting.
My notes show she was referred to us by Ofer, @ruff! Last year

Ofer sends us His Nut cases.. we've done enough of them to know this is true. But im not mad at you Ofer. We enjoy the challenge.. except maybe this time-- haha

Ofer did she blame you and charge you for 1 of holes and That's why you didnt want to serve her?

Doesn't Matter
The force that it would take to knock the drywall completely out of the hole is way more than the hardest incidental hit you would ever make. Someone was really mad and flung that door open. For demonstration purposes take a hammer and punch a hole in drywall.

He most likely tossed his stupid 6" stair tool at the wall at minute 67 of his premium process...

Lol-- he refused to use that POS about a month ago.
I would think the hole would still have some drywall dangling or attached if it was a fresh hole.:headscratch:.
The screw for the door stop looks stripped also, which leads me to think it wasnt attached correctly.

I only send you clients that need a portable machine, and people that can't wait till I am available. No nut case screening so far. But I'll be happy to stop referring. No prob.

I have seen my fair share of holes from door knobs over the years...

That particular hole looks to have been repaired before. The telling area as near the middle where it is narrow. It looks brittle, like the area had been repaired with joint compound.

Me, I would tell the customer that the only way the hole could have been made would have been if the door jumped over the door stop. Your technicians are also required to report all damage without penalty for the incident.

After saying that, I would repair the hole and put new screws in the door stop.

If you need advice on how to do an effective repair, let me know. As I said, I have several over the years.

yep
and little doubt anyone that punched a hole would know when it happened

as Brian noted, looks like it was repaired ...and punched out again

what should you do??
If she's worth keeping (and you don't suspect she's intentionally trying the scam you) fix it .
You might need to repaint the whole wall though...unless she has some of the same paint

Ofer sends us His Nut cases

that would be 79.88375% of his clientele.....

A $4 can of spackling and some drywall tape might save you from the dreaded bad review. Last week one of my best realtors thought I might have chipped a corner of a wall in her house. I told her I really didn't remember doing it but would fix it since I became an expert spackler when I owned a couple of rentals. She's happy, I'm happy, everything is good.

I just bought the supplies to fix it right-- $44. but that includes 2 different textures in spray cans, I'll return the unused one. I'll inform her that I do not believe we did it but I will fix it anyway.
She isn't worth keeping-- but as business owners we have to take the high road.

never heard of such a thing for patching a large hole

what did you buy?

..L.T.A.

Hum-- i dont know who this tripod todd is-- but sounds like he is gifted in some way. :icon_twisted:
Must have been during my time away from MB.

The patch kit has a foldable plastic screen that goes behind the drywall. Ill also cover the repair with the plastic circle wall protector. And ill install a better door stop.

You did take the high road. I would have filled it with toilet paper and smoothed it over with toothpaste.
