Today a PM sent me a job where a hot water heater leaked in a chiropractor’s office. I told the PM I could get out there tomorrow between 2 and 3pm.
So later today I got a call from the Chiropractor. She confirmed that I was coming tomorrow then hit me with a barrage of questions. “Are you a remediation company” “ Are you licensed to do flood work” “ my customers and I are sensitive to odors. What chemicals will you be using?” “Will you be bringing dehumidifiers?” “What about the water inside the walls”.
I politely explained to her that I wasn’t responsible for structural drying, just to get up the standing water out of the carpet. After her questions I saw the red flags
flapping in the wind. I bluntly told her that she is throwing up a lot of red flags and I don’t feel comfortable taking on this job. I told her I would call the PM and have them call a remediation to do the job.
When I said that I could hear the wind go out of her sails. She knew at that point she wasn’t getting any help.
She called me back and left me a voicemail apologizing for her tone. She then wanted me to call he back with a list of chemicals I would be using. Good grief.
Called the PM and told them about our conversation. I reluctantly declined the job but told them I was almost sure I would end up in court on this one. The PM agreed. They said this lady is very hard to deal with.
On a good note. I had a killer day cleaning for one of my Millionaire customers. She showed me her collection of woolly mammoth tusks. Quite impressive.
