This house was built in 1965. Pretty sure original carpets. Besides the offgass under furniture situation they still look good, actually great. No stains or wear patterns.

Next job was a 5 yo house with rugs bought by an interior designer. I walked from this one. piss stains were the problem, then the tag........viscose blend.

Im seeing more and more viscose.

At least Annie Selke (Dash and Albert) warns people about what they're buying:

The delicate fibers of viscose-blend rugs are best suited for low-traffic, gently used rooms only. Not suitable for homes with children and pets.

On the website at least.

@ $16 to $20 per sq ft, I decided to go around it. Do not want racing stripes here.

A caller said that she has heard from two sources that her wool Tufenkian rugs can not get wet-- so she will be looking for an alternative cleaning company specializing in the Dry method.
I responded: "If wool couldn't get wet, then Sheep would have to be indoor animals.
I informed her that I had the Dry compound method available, but it's inferior to water extraction.
I've heard similar, "sheep don't bathe, so why would I get my wall to wall wool cleaned?" I just say, any cleaning is better than no cleaning, trust me to make the right choices for what you have.

It's a messy process.. But if the rug has inherit color run issues to getting wet, Host is a viable option.. Dusting the crap out of it after Host is key..

I cleaned a mostly white synthetic in a customers home last week. I couldn't do a good job under the table like she wanted me to do so I took it out on the deck and made multiple passes. HWE. Left in her garage to dry and went back 2 days later to put it back for her and it looked like shit. Rugs must be thoroughly vacuumed and dusted before cleaning and should not be done in the customers home.

disagree there. Just not possible for the average rug. Cost or Logistics. I have most dry and groomed before I leave with a check in my hand and a happy customer.

And honestly, I watch some long videos with flushing them out, scrubbing, rinsing, hundreds of gallons of water. The results do not impress me. And the time cleaning had to be more than the time of the video, which was long. Plant or no plant, should have walked imo.

I do explain the difference between a rug washing compared to HWE in house, and usually the customer says "Just go for it, we are not gonna send it out, just do your best"

And instead of just walking, I at least offer to vacuum it complimentary with my 1530, rake it and that lets you walk away and also makes the customer happy.

Having said this, I was never in a rug cleaning plant. They are insanley cool, but overkill for most of my work.
