My boxxer has a briggs motor the judson uses the Kohler, my TM repair guy says the briggs will leak more then the Kohler's but the briggs will usually give you warning signs when they are going bad where as the Kohl's will just usually die on you with no warning signs, so i guess its just pick your poison
Or avoid the poison and spend $5-$7k more for a kubota. You’re financing it anyway so it’s just about $100 more/month

Not financing, if i buy new one i'll be paying cash, which TM has that Kubota engine actually this
the TCS Chief TM has a Honda motor which i like, Honda motor would be better then the briggs and Kohler motors i would think

I had a custom built unit with an 18 HP Honda a few years ago. I got over 5000 hours on it before I decided to rebuild it. Only problem I ever had is one coil went bad. Was very reliable and always start right up. Paired with a 4 ml blower, it had decent suction.

Now the boxxer uses a heat exchanger which gets plenty hot and i've come to like it just fine, so the only question i have to ask myself is do i really want to or need to switch over to having to buy propane.
Do you really want to make a separate trip for an additional fuel source? I just actually sent my Little Giant to the junk pile when it probably only needed a thermocouple. It was on a dolly, and I don’t want to mess with it. I still use propane for buffers, and that sucks enough! The Little Giant would smoke, but so what.

I ran TCS TMs for years. I went away from them because I grew tired of buying propane, dealing with fume silt on my windows and having no room for my Cimex, RVs and Zippers. It’s not a very spacious system. However, its true advantage is its ease of maintenance and simplicity. I could find myself buying another in the future, but I’d really hate buying propane again.

Is that why you see some of those units with the l shaped exhaust blowing outwards

I grew to hate mine so quick I never experimented with that

Withou a way to also vent the propane heater exhaust outside just venting the engine exhaust outside is not enough. The heat buildup inside your van in the summer is enormous. It causes premature degradation of wiring and plastics. It also kills your engine over time.

Yeah i like the fact that the TCS Chief has a honda motor, its the going back to having to make an additional stop to buy propane. I had a little giant heater on my last set up before buying the boxxer with heat exchanger which gets plenty hot enough (free heat) I may be a little spoiled now not having an additional expense of propane and not having to make an extra stop to get propane.

Still running my boxxer 318 still happy with it still no problems other then the throttle cable replacement and the float in the water box, yes it does have some oil leaks but thats normal on any truck mount after awhile, its now 2025 and i bought this new in 2019 so i can't complain as its served me well, thinking of getting out of the business in the near future, i'm heading to 65 years old now and although still physically able i don't want to be doing this at 70 years old, got to throw in the towel some time right. considering a move to Phoenix Arizona in probably less then a year from now, got plenty of saved up cash, plus about 130k in equity in my current house, I have a brother that lives in phoenix that i've always been close with, i can buy a place cash in phoenix and almost still get by with just my social security so i'd just use my savings to make up the difference and can go about 10 years that way, but i don't plan on doing that (using up my savings) so i figure i can just get some kind of easy part time job or do the door dash thing as i don't need to earn much and i'm not one to sit around and do nothing anyway, i do not plan on bringing all my equipment with me and starting over again even though i'd already have the equipment, by the time i got a good customer base built up i'd be ready to hang it up anyway so why bother.

From my experience and travels there's no more competitive a city for carpet cleaning, but I'd keep the equipment and find some part-time gigs as you'll never make the same amount of income even working full-time that you could do with just one job a week...

I have two 2 first cousins living there. They both grew up in Cali. They’re in their late 70’s. The younger brother moved years ago and finally talked his sister into moving there 5 yrs ago. Of course, the heat has been the the biggest adjustment for her. They live in Mesa.🤪

Ive only bought 1 new truckmount in the 48 years ive been in business. After reading a few of responses i thought i would put in my 2cents. Personally i would look for a good used low hour rig. There seems to be a several around. Let someone else spend the big bucks and you buy a going outa business special or divorce forces sale or illness forces sale complete rig. Put the word out to your distributors their out there. They even show up on mb classified. I know you said you have a van, but what if you could step onto a affordable butler or hydramaster pto turn key ??? And sell your van.Or even better find a refurbished or low hour trade in brand name slidein i know my local distributor comes across these at least 2or3 times a year. I would go that route before i bought a small mom n pop shop built. Here in California used equipment is hot market right now thanks to carb laws there's very few new machines legal for sale here. Thats my thought. Too bad your not in California you could come to my shop and haul off my original machine for free its really really old but ran great when i retired it and put it in storage and its all propane engine and heater
