How many do you have signed up?

What vendors are coming?

What is your maximum capacity?

How long is each presentation?

Presentations run between four hours for the web tools and textile workshops to fifteen minutes for an update on what's up with the IICRC. Most presentations will be 60 to 90 minutes, enough time to get pretty in-depth on the subjects. Most of the presenters are hanging around for the entire program too, so they'll also be around for informal networking.

This event is about maximum info and networking, so we're capping attendance for the cleaning College at 70 and the Web Tools workshop at 60. I don't have numbers, but our association members have been informed, so if the college sells out before they sign up they had their chance. We're giving the member rate for members of any industry trade association.

We're inviting companies to the tradeshow that have been requested by members and seem to have some unique equipment or services. The focus with vendors will be on having time to get to know them and about what's unique about their products rather than having seventeen versions of the same things. The tradeshow will be open only to attendees.

HydraMaster/Sapphire/Interlink/Prochem will all have a presence, Stone Pro, Service Monster, Textile Pros, Firehouse Education, The Dyers Guild, Restoration Law, Chemspec and Rug Badger are signed up. Anyone or anything special you'd want to see? We'll invite them. A vendor that thinks they fill a special niche or have a unique service can contact the CCINW office to be put in touch with our exhibit committee. 877.692.2469 info@ccinw.org.

More information at: http://www.cleaningcollege.org

PS: It will be refreshing to go to an event with presentations that are worth being at and having some fun. I'm skipping the crapfest this year.

I was looking at the site and you get a discount if you're a member of one of the organizations, but it only lists the abbreviations. I'm such a newbie, I have no idea who's who! Which one of those is best for a general carpet cleaner and water damage business? Or, is there a list of all those associations somewhere with an explanation of what they do? I haven't checked the IICRC website, will do. But still want to know which one you guys think is best for my outfit.

PCRA is Texas based.

Few of them are fully supported, some are nearer life-support.

A couple plan to take over the world :-)

We need to list a few more industry organizations. ARCS, IAQA and RIA members would also qualify for member rates.

ARCS is a rug cleaner's group, and restoration-focused RIA and IAQA members would be particularly interested in the Patrick Moffett/Patrick Paluga/Ed Cross sessions.

http://www.pcralliance.org Is the website of the Texas regional association with an annual dues rate of $225.
A couple of notable members are Kevin Pearson, now one of the new-look guys helping out on the IICRC Board, Patrick Paluga, who is presenting at the Cleaning College, and Larry Cobb, an extremely helpful distributor that posts here regularly.

Sorry if I missed anyone.

PS: This is the most powerful group of presenters gathered in this industry in many years. You really should check it out.

ICRA too?

(LOL)

I'm looking forward to this event. I love that it's all general sessions instead of breakouts where every infomercial has 8 in the room at the same time. And I'm looking forward to learning from Ed Cross, he is one of my favorite presenters in this industry. Hoping to get him a drum set so he can play music during the Expo hours.

We used to have events like this back in the days when I first joined CFI, where you have a venue that is super affordable, but also a destination location where you want to bring your family along. I'm dragging along my nieces, they want to check out the amusement park, and the shopping at the resort. I'll be staying the weekend so I can check out the spa - plus I love the Tahoe area, exploring will be in store.

As one of the people on the program we've been told to present tactical, ready-to-act-on education. Jim and I have had several calls about this as to what would be the best textile information to share with cleaners who have been in the business awhile.

I hope to see more of these regional events. I remember a few past CCINW events I've been to back before Connections made these things vanilla and the same old stuff... I miss those past events, and hope this is a sign of more to come.

I knew I'd missed some, thanks AnnieV!

The Pros Choice folks are an example of the kind of company that brings value to a tradeshow beyond just selling product.

Lisa the GSR doesn't have a typical amusement park with rides but they do have go carts, movie theater, an arcade and golf driving range as well as shopping and bowling. There is a cool water park in Sparks very close to the casino as well. Lots of fun to be had by all ages.

I look back with good memories on the mid eighties shows in Reno, Brian! I appreciate the efforts of the groups putting on the show!

But help me out here a bit...do I discern that maybe CFI and CCINW are maybe lessening their support for Connections in Las Vegas?

The attendance seems to be limited...maybe 60 or 70 in various classes...does that mean that the overall attendance is limited to that amount of cleaners?

Is there a low price admission to the trade show only? If not...may I ask why? Would a reduced price admission to the trade show perhaps help develop membership interest in the respective associations?

Is this show 'sponsored' or 'approved' by the IICRC? Does this show mean that IICRC is lessening it's support for Connections Las Vegas?

Does it seem like there might be less of a value from the standpoint of the different manufacturers and distributors who choose to attend...due to the restrictive # of people who are going to attend?

Could it be that Mikeyfest might be a better venue for manufacturers to display there wares?

Can I buy you a beer or dinner after the show some evening...because I still owe you for some 'rug ID's?'- Jim Eckman

The IICRC has no involvement with the Cleaning College except offering Continuing Education Credits for attendees.

The main reason we're doing this is due to complaints from our members about poor quality and infomercial seminars. We're making a point of not being like Connections by using only volunteer staffing and keeping the show small for better networking. The presenters were so happy to hear about an old-fashioned learning experience that they all offered their time and expertise at no charge to us. (We're paying their travel expenses.)

There is one aspect to this that is directly related to Connections though. Our income from Connections has gone from a major source of our funding to a net loss once we pay to have our booth shipped there. As associations, the CCINW and CFI need to remember that we started Connections and can put on a profitable event to keep a lid on dues rates. This is another reason our presenters are coming without charging us; they're good people, they believe we're doing good things and want to help.

Vendors that just want foot traffic have lots of options, from Connections to all of the various "fests." Limiting tradeshow admission to paying attendees makes the event about the attendee rather than the tradeshow. We've been upfront about this with our exhibitors and they're onboard with how the show is being handled. Generally, the person paying to attend is a more qualified customer, so we'll see if quantity is sacrificed for quality.

I don't really think you owe me for anything, but I'd be happy to swap buying rounds. Networking is why we started Connections (and why I suggested calling it Connections) and we want to get back to that 1999 concept. We'll have time to make solid contacts.

See you there!

I'd end up just boring him with stories of the old days of cleaning carpet in the 70's....

..when we used peroxide and Fels Naptha for stains and spots and cleaned with whatever free stuff manufacturers sent us to test or endorse...

How could he possibly identify with stories like that?
