Client Complains About "Stripes"

One of my guys was cleaning a house yesterday. I get a call from a upset client saying that we left stripes all over her carpet. So I asked her to send pictures of the stripes.

After looking at them, it seems like it is from the hybrid glide. Have you ever had a client complain about this? How did you handle that?

You are going to go back and reclean the carpet. This time make sure your jets are unplugged and aligned properly and the glide is not plugged.

Don't forget to take deep breaths, eat your fruit and vegetables and wash your hands after you poop.

All jets are brand new and glide was not clogged is the problem. This is just wool carpet that was cleaned and the glide left this behind.

At what temp & pressure..... :?:

Temp was 225 and the strokes look long because of the camera angle etc. Pressure was 500psi

Reclean, and use a carpet brush this time.

I am NOT a wool expert...We get very little in fl..especially wall to wall...

But I would assume the heat & pressure has SET the yarn...!

That carpet at a minimum should have been groomed...!
Defiantly will need re-cleaning...Try a Host machine or a Whittaker to groom the lines out of it..!


This is NOT going to be acceptiable to the cleint...the lines HAVE to go..!!!
They are NOT going to be willing to VAC for months...waiting for the fibers to be more uniform
in appearance...

ps When we 1st started using a glide...We had clients SWEAR the wand was flawed & was NOT cleaning the carpet uniformly..."They assumed those were dirty STREAKS... :idea: "

Looks like jets are striking too close to the carpet, throw in high temp on delicate carpet and I'd be surprised if you can correct it to a pissed off clients satisfaction.

I'd cross your fingers, toes and ring the neck of the technician that continued to clean when there was clearly an issue.

Hopefully you can reverse that...reclean and you DON'T need that hot water to clean wool and you DON'T need that much pressure!

Just like oriental rugs- we don't wash them with high heat and high pressure. (Except a few)

You can wash a wool rug with pretty cool water in a washpit with low pressure flushing. So wall to wall wool shouldn't need that blasting to get it cleaned.

Ben I'm 99% sure that a final dry stroke would avoid leaving stripes. I clean wool every day using a hybrid - yes it will leave stripes if the last stroke is a wet stroke, but finish with a dry stroke and there'll be no need to groom. I'd say your guys should be using dry strokes on wool anyways.

Richard nailed it. For this particular carpet jets were too close, pressure too high. You "flared" it, and should have noticed from the first stroke in the first room.

This will happen on frieze and other plush or "frizzy" carpets.
