Today I added 3 gallons straight vinegar to my empty water box and hooked solution line from fresh water QC to solution line QC and ran for 10 minutes. How long should I leave vinegar in my machine?

Well don't know about the vinegar but I run my machine strictly with water from the Kinetico System at the shop. Water can be super hard in some areas here causing plumbing and mainly the pump to run rough. As a back up in the truck I keep a Prochem EZ Charge if ever ever the need to fill up on site or run water source through it. Pain in the but when plumbing scales.

Not the answer you are looking for but maybe consider some type of on-board water softener system. Never had to descale.

I do the same thing with mine. I usually run it for 10 to 15 minutes. I use a filter so that I don't recirculate junk back into my system. Amazing what comes out.
A filter would have been a good idea! I'll keep that in mind for next time. I'm thinking of leaving the vinegar in over night? Do you think that will be ok?

Personally, I wouldn't do it. Acids are a great descaler but are corrosive. I usually flush with clean water after descaling. Others may think differently.

I have very soft water here so mineral deposits aren't much of a problem. Mainly we are trying to get rid of detergent buildup. I use "cleaning or double strength vinegar" and it really rips through all the deposits. I do it much the same as the butler but I just use one pail and recirculate with a filter on the intake hose to limit any larger particles from reentering the system. I use a propane heater, so I fire it up and run everything at full temp. I use 3 gallons of vinegar. Our chemical injection is on our fresh water intake so we get chemical deposits throughout the system.

I've used vinegar to descale and it worked fine. I ran in a closed loop about 15 minutes then let it sit for an hour. Everything cleaned up and my bypass orifice was fine after. drop a little scaled up brass into a jar of vinegar, pretty aggressive stuff. Comes out shiny new.

we have soft water here as well . We also fill our water tanks thru a 50 micron filter before it goes in the machine . So we usually use a descaler every 6 months on a closed loop . let it sit for 15 minuits and then flush .. seems to work well for us . maybe i will switch to a vinegar too . What kind of vinegar is best ?

10 percent acetic acid, or double strength vinegar. Table vinegar is 5 percent, pickling is 7 percent, cleaning is 10 percent.
