Yeah I'm legally blind. The Aussie government says no driving. So I outsourced. I'm an albino, I have a genetic defect that means I lack the genes that tell my body how to make certain chemicals and coloured tissues. This impacts my vision, as well as my hair and skin. My body doesn't make melanin so the sun is very dangerous to me. I cannot tan, I just get sunburn so badly it's like radiation burns.

So I need to work indoors. I worked as a system admin and tech for 19 years. I just wanted a change. The wife didn't like it so much. But without her I just focus.
That is awesome...

Grant you must be one of the hardest working cleaners around. Most guys would quit, instead of having to load everything into a taxi, driving to a job then reloading everything in the taxi again and going somewhere else. It's not like your just bring your portable. You bring the vacuum, rotovac, portable, heater, chems and spotters, etc. I hope your customers appreciate the effort you put in to their jobs. It would be tempting for most to do a spray and suck, then run. You really are a testament to hard work and sticking to your guns. We have a family who moved to BC a few years ago with similar conditions to you. They chose to settle in Prince Rupert because the research they did said it was one of the rainiest places in the world, where they could still get work and raise their kids. Some people do love the rain.

Grant-

Does your diesel heater have a fuel cell inside the case to feed the heater?

I would say that heater is a bit of overkill, just because it might not give you that much better/quicker cleaning as opposed to using your electric heater.

Do they make a smaller model?

Just asking because even though the heater has wheels, it is still a lot of extra room and weight to move about on every job, seeing as how you have to load and unload from the taxi.

My hat is off to you because you work so much harder than we have to do.

So I'm not complaining to myself again when I encounter a "hard days work".

I believe you always must have a smile on your face.

Best to you!

I only ever do what the voices tell me.

To answer your question I do not take the diesel burner to every job. It's not practical. Its principally for:

Large Bookings. - complete 4, 5 and grater bedroom homes, sporting clubs, restaurants, exterior tiles, concrete.
Bio Cleanups - Blood and trauma cleanups. At 150c I can sterilise with tap water.
Vacate Cleans with No Power

For smaller jobs I will use the customer's hot water supply in conjunction with electric heat from my porty.

If I only have upholstery to do I just take the porty, a very short run of hose (5m / 16.4ft) and my UPH tools.

If I have a small bathroom of tile and one room of carpet, or two rooms of carpet, or two rooms and a hallway I take the porty, a 5 m hose, a 10m hose (32.81ft), My Kleenrite VacBoost (an inline vacuum booster with a small catch tank on it) and my carpet and tile tools.

it's a modular system.

When I need The BIG IRON, I have a specially modified 4 stroke pressure washer which can output from 600 - 3000PSI and 10L/m or 2.64Gal/m. This feeds into the diesel burner and the Nautilus and Vacboost just do extraction.

I also have three 4 stroke petrol / gasoline generators when needed.

Dumb question - how do you get all that in the taxi? Multiple trips? Hats off to you...
Thats not a stupid question. The Toyota vans they use are HUGE and have hydraulic lifts for loading mobility scooter bound passengers.

Have you thought about hiring someone to drive you and train them to eventually take over?
It's dangerous if they call in sick in the shorter term. Get all invested in a van, they say "I'm not well" and I can't go to work.

I feel better about it being in my direct control.

I understand that. I've been without a license for about 6 years. It's hard finding dependable people.

It just sounded as though your situation may deteriorate to where you won't be able to see well enough to clean.

You are an inspiration!

Did you ever consider using a vehicle of your own and having a helper/driver?

At least some of the time?

She has T-shirt on...it matches his name

Already paying a helper, why not have them drive also?

A lot of benefits to having your own vehicle on site.

You can only unload what is needed.
You will have more of the things that you did not think you needed on hand.
You can load things immediately as they are broken down.
Exposure from vehicle advertising.
