In response to a question about why the "members" were not asked for their input.

Probably the most common misconception in the industry is that people paying to be part of the Certified Firm Referral Program think they've joined a trade association. They haven't. The IICRC says it over and over; the IICRC has no members. They're owned by trade asociations that have members. If you belong to a trade association that owns shares in the (now) Clean Trust, you have input through your association, but paying the CF fee just gets you what you paid for, a referral listing.

Going forward, the CT must get rid of their CF registrants to have ANSI recognize them as a legitimate certification organization (Can't have "Members" and ANSI sees "Registrants" as members). To keep the money the program brings in, they will have to build a seperate association to house the CFs. At that point the registrants will become members of something, but there's no clear idea of what that will be.

I hereby formally trademark the phrases: "I am Trust-Worthy" & "I am a Trust-Worthy cleaning specialist", and all similar iterations..

If you would like to be Trust-Worthy as well, you can apply for a license to use the terminology. The fee will be nominal.
Website listing to follow.

Of course it's going to cost you now that they changed it.

You'll need to rip the patches off your shirt, the decals off your vans, new letterhead and adjust to referencing the IICRC to Clean Trust.

Mrs. Jones according to the "Clean Trust S-500" we should.......

Sorta rolls right off your tongue...........yea, like vinegar!

There seems to be just a little hokeness to the name. ???

Does anyone at all know of ANY reason to be affiliated with IICRC (other than sending them money every year)?

I can take classes and learn from any number of sources, not pay for their testing, and still be just as knowledgeable. As for advertising or telling your customers that you are a "certified carpet cleaner", it doesn't mean JACK to them.

Any reason to renew???

I believe the new guard is sincere when they say they want to change things for the better FOR US the regular cleaners. When you got good eggs like Tony Wheelwright working who has the grass roots interests at heart its hard not to give the new regime some slack.

To me the name change signifies one of the first outward signs to the world that things are changing for something better. But behind the scenes there are big changes already underway from the very top to the bottom of how and for WHO they go about things.

I say question everything, but give them a chance. Good has won over evil and it will become more apparent soon.

Cleaner don't need a patch to invoke trust for clients.

They can build trust in more visable, meaningful and less inspencive ways with also having more impact than a patch, van decal or certificate.

This ain't 1990

How stupid do they think clients are?

Trust me, Can't you see my uniform patch?

This sounds like it’s the kiss of death for the organization. They made a big effort to gain name recognition in the last few years only to change the name. The will not see another dime of my money.

Good points Doc, and that is why the new Truck decals will be slightly larger than the old - same for patches so neither will have to be removed. I believe that for Certified Firms some of these items will be provided at cost or less.

Did you really say Mrs. Jones according to the "IICRC S-500" we should.......?
Or perhaps you said things like "Mrs. Jones according to the "S-500 Standard" we should.......?

More later....

Monumentally bad move. I hope there was an incredibly good reason like Greg Cole was spearheading a hostile take over of the IICRC or something so he could re-write the standards to include "cafeteria pricing".

IICRC sounds official, proffessional and business like.

The Clean Trust sounds like a money making gimmick created by one of the marketing gurus so you can send them $2000 per month to feel better about yourself.

And there lies the problem - If I'm paying money for a membership in anything, I expect input and consultation instead of a dick tater ship with the deaf. Naw - no money from me.

Mark - excellent blog post.

Rebranding is an ad agency ploy to keep busy and keep their retainer. They truly could have redirected the money that it will cost to rebrand everything toward improving and expanding training. Their problems are foundation problems, not "name" problems.

I'm really disappointed in this move after a few years of clean-up and reform, because this is a waste of money and energy.

But maybe Tom Hill owns the domain www.iicrc.org and certified cleaners.org ... so maybe that is why this was necessary. Dissolve the old group to get out of old, multi-million dollar management contracts.

There has to be a back story here... there always is.

What's silly is, they could have added that tag line to IICRC anyway. Renaming the entity makes no sense at all. Rookie business blunder.

They should have focused first on improving training and how its done, then once they had something with more value to offer, they might have been able to pull this off.

That may be true but the name alone shows they are dated. Who ever came out with that should be taken outback and given an enema with a greenhorn, after a proper prescrub of course. How does this affext the cri-soa bullcrap?
