Leather clothing with mold.

This was dropped of to me to clean as the (several) local dry cleaners would not touch it.

As you can see, mould spores are very prevalent.

So bad in fact, that the interior lining is rotting.

I did suggest throw away & replace, but the overseas gent say's it's a family heirloom and wants it restored.

I'll do my best with no guarantee.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, the pics were taken with my Samsung 7 phone & I still am not familiar with it, but now that I'm on my pc, at least I can rotate them.

One pic (4), shows a mattress cover that was clean prior to placing the jacket on it for photo's;
No pressure was applied, this is just to demonstrate how easily the mould spores attach to other items.

I'll post more pics when I'm finished, PROVIDING he gives me a waiver to remove the inner lining so I can treat & clean the interior leather.

What would charge for something like that. We are needing another leather garment cleaner locally. Our main leather cleaning company closed down and all the drycleaners are scrambling to find someone else. Do you do re-dying as well?

Ron, when I spent time with John & Stephanie Conway of Suede Products (Joliet, Chicago), they were cleaning leather jackets for US$14.00

They have since bought out another business, here's their website: http://www.suedecleaners.com/index-6.php

My normal charge to clean, deodorize and nourish/protect a leather jacket is around the AU$100 mark, depending on leather type & problems.

This particular one will be around AU$200. because I will have to remove the interior lining, treat the interior leather & also spray a black pigment/sealer over the entire exterior of the jacket.

Here it is part done.

Wow that looks great. We used to have several leather cleaning companies here but they all have seemed to have gone out of business. The last remaining one is working by appointment only. There is a great opportunity to start one up as all the dry cleaners who acted as agents, now have nowhere to go. If you ever wanted to move to Vancouver, now's the time.

Maybe. It depends on why they went out of business. If it was for a lack of work it might be something someone could diversify into. but a stand alone business might be tough.

The principals of the main company are retiring it seems and have no interest in continuing the business. With the large population we have and apparently no competition, it seems like a golden opportunity.

This job is far from finished ATPIT.
Waiting on further instructions from the client.

Vancouver ??

Many friends there, but too damn cold for us, we like the tropics.

A real good Buddy is also there, Roger Koh of "The Leather Doctor".

Roger taught me a lot about leather clothing when we were in Lost Wages for Connections a decade ago.

I also wonder if Harry Hides ever moved there from Winnipeg as was his intention.

A few people some may remember.
